Decode the Smells From Down There
You have been running around all day like a crazy wild animal, then when you finally sit down it hits you. The dreaded smell from “down there”. Omg! Am I the only one that smells that?!? Don’t worry we have all experienced it.
Your vagina like any other body part let’s you know when something is wrong. It is perfectly natural for your lady parts to have a certain odor, or lets say aroma. It is when you are hit with a strange odor that your hoo-ha can be telling you there is something wrong, like a serious infection.
Decoding your smells of your vagina lets you know the difference between normal and get to a doctor STAT smells.
Every vagina has it’s own smell. Depending on your day-to-day activities it may slightly change. After that really intense spin class, your hoo-ha might have a stronger, musky smell than normal. This is from the surrounding sweat glands, which is totally NORMAL.
If your hoo-ha is giving a strong, foul odor it could be a sign of infection. Bacterial vaginosis, is a common infection among women, caused by an overgrowth of bacteria which upsets the vagina’s PH balance. This can cause an increase in discharge and a strong fishy odor that will increase after activities like sex.
If you are experiencing a foul odor associated with green discharge, this typically indicates trichomoniasis, an STD. This is a rush to your doctor moment ladies!
After sex you might smell a little different than normal. Depending on the lubricants you have been using during sex and whether or not you’ve used a condom can affect your hoo-ha’s smell. Typically most women describe these smells are “chlorine-like” or “bleachy”, and it is nothing to call your doctor about, totally normal.
While a small about of yeast in your lady parts are normal and healthy, an overgrowth can cause yeast infections. If you notice a faint, bread-like smell going on down there, and maybe even cottage-cheese-like discharge, contact your doctor.
If you are noticing your lady parts constantly smell off, like the smell of blood during that time of the month, it is typically nothing to worry about. When you have your period the discharged blood can mix with the natural smell of your vagina causing things to smell a bit off, but again totally normal.
Ever watch the Keeping Up With the Kardashian episode where they eat an overload of pineapple to see if it will affect the smell of their vagina? What you eat does in fact alter the smell of your hoo-ha. Citrus fruits like oranges, pineapple, and grapefruit can give your lady parts a sweetened smell and taste.
Onions, garlic, broccoli, coffee, and asparagus can cause an unpleasant odor and taste. Keep this in mind when you are in the mood for some playtime with your guy.
