Kim Richards Talks Out About Rehab and RHOBH For the First Time
Kim Richards, a former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, has recently opened up about her drunken past. For the first time she is giving us a look into her drunken arrest, stints in rehab, and her departure from her Bravo TV show.
“I love sobriety. I’ve always loved sobriety, and relapsing was very hard for me. It was not easy. I have to say, don’t take this wrong, but I really wanted to go to treatment because I needed a break from what I was going through at home,” Richards said during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
The former child actress and most recent reality star blamed her most recent relapse on the stress caused by her family. “Monty, my ex-husband, is very sick and my son wasn’t well,” Richards, 50, told ET. “And I had to give away my dog, and I wasn’t talking to my sister [Kyle].” Richard’s relationship with her sister had been rocky since her pit bull Kingsley had attached her niece Alexia, Kyle Richard’s 19-year-old daughter, along with other issues regarding Kim’s friendship with Brandi Glanville and past dramas.
On April 16, the reality star was arrested at the Beverly Hills Hotel on charges of public intoxication, batter, and resisting arrest. As a result of her arrest, Richards checked into rehab early last month.
“Actually, my arrest was my ‘Aha, I get to go away now and rest and take a break from all this,'” Richards confessed. “I don’t want anybody to take this wrong, but I truly needed a break from hospitals, family, the pressure. I needed to go away.”
Sources have said that Richards will not be returning to the upcoming season of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Richards, Paris and Nicky Hilton’s aunt, had been on the Bravo show for nearly five years. “The RHOBH producers really have no interest in bringing her back to the show,” a source reveals. “Kim needs to get help and it needs to happen outside of the show.”
Richards then said that the show wants her back, and she might return. Hmmm, I guess we will see once the show’s new season airs on Bravo.
In her interview to ET, Richards said she had completed her program, and has been sober for more than 30 days. “I went in and I got to learn a whole lot about myself,” she commented about rehab. “I dug deep into my past, things that happened to me as a child, good and bad, teenage years, relationships with all my loved ones, where they need to be mended, where they’re very powerful. I worked on me.”
For her daughter Brooke’s Cabo wedding that took place in May, Richards left rehab to join the festivities. However, she did not do the same for her niece Nicky’s nuptials in London. “I decided to stay in treatment,” she said.
As far as her relationship with her sister, Kyle, “I’ve talked to her a couple of times when she’s been in France and London. She came to Brooke’s wedding. And that was actually the first time I had seen her in six to seven months. So that was a little hard.”
Hopefully Kim is in a better place and she will remain of healthy mind and body. Time can only tell.
