President Trump’s ability to punch back harder than he’s being hit, is one of his biggest political weapons.
Trump and several members of his immediate family members are fiercely retaliating against two financial institutions.
On Monday, they sued those banking institutions in an effort to block congressional subpoenas for his financial records.
Trump joined with the Trump Organization and his children Ivanka, Eric and Donald Trump Jr.
The group filed the suit against Deutsche Bank and Capital One in the federal court in the Southern District of New York, according to court records.
The Trump team is hoping a judge will rule that the subpoenas which were filed by the House Intelligence and Financial Services committees are unlawful and not enforceable.
Earlier this month, those same committees which are chaired by Democratic leaders Rep. Adam Schiff and Rep. Maxine Waters, subpoenaed Deutsche Bank and Capital One as part of their investigation into Trump’s financial deals.
In order to stop this process of discovery, Trump and his children sued to block the subpoenas.
They claim the subpoenas and the investigation into his finances are a political expedition sparked by the president’s rivals.
“Their goal is to rummage around Plaintiffs’ private financial information in the hope that they will stumble upon something they can expose publicly and use as a political tool against the President,” the suit states.
The lawsuit also seeks to block the banks from being forced to disclose any information in compliance with the subpeonas.
The actions of the Trump team is sure to stir the pot of controversy surrounding the president’s financial history.
Do you think Trump and his family will prevail in their suit against the banks? Do you think that they should?
