Tucker Dares Dems: “Go ahead and impeach the president”

It was just 48 hours ago when impeaching the president seemed highly unlikely. But how swiftly things can change in Washington D.C.

Leading Fox News host Tucker Carlson said in his opening monologue last night that now, impeachment seems almost certain. This shift is not because we have learned anything new about the president, despite years of investigations and millions of dollars spent trying to find damaging information, no-one has found anything to conclude that Trump colluded with Russia to influence the 2016 presidential election.

But that doesn’t matter, because Robert Mueller publicly testified that although he couldn’t conclude that the president committed a crime, he also couldn’t conclude that he didn’t commit a crime.

On the basis of that testimony, Democrats have now united and concluded: “We must impeach.”

Years of investigations could not produce a criminal charge against Donald Trump, but Mueller suggested Congress could still step in, saying, “The opinion says that the Constitution requires a process other than the criminal justice system to formally accuse a sitting president of wrongdoing.”

“A process other than the criminal justice system.”

Kamala Harris of California, who is running for president tweeted, “What Robert Mueller basically did was return an impeachment referral. Now it is up to Congress to hold this President accountable. We need to start impeachment proceedings. It’s our constitutional obligation.”

Beto O’Rourke, meanwhile, took a break from skateboarding to agree. “There must be consequences,” he wrote. “Accountability and justice. The only way to ensure that is to begin impeachment proceedings.”

After showing a string of mainstream media commentary about the urgency of impeachment and the “litany of lies” from President Trump, Carlson respond to the mayhem by saying: “You know what, if you’re that excited, go ahead and impeach the president.” He questioned how excited the America people will be over the next year and a half over an impeachment trial that is wasting time and money and achieving nothing.

“Pelosi may be extreme, but she’s not stupid. There’s a reason she’s been against impeachment from day one,” Carlson said. He continued, “She knows it will hurt her own party, but her party doesn’t care.”

Carlson summed up his monolugue by saying that our country will suffer through a pointless year of controversy over impeachment while the real issues fester and get worse. He referenced opiods, student loans, the border and trade wars with China, and then said: “Take your pick, none of those will get fixed. Instead we’ll have a pointless show trial…it will be depressing, but we will have not choice.”
