Opinion| Mark Sidney| Today, USA Today published a piece by the famous, super successful, and widely respect, no nonsense, Judge Judy Sheindlin. In the Opinion Editorial, Judge Judy, as she is known, laid the groundwork for a Presidential run for her fellow, uber rich New Yorker, Michael Bloomberg.
According to NetWorthBro.com:
“Judge Judy Net Worth: Judith Susan Sheindlin professionally known as Judge Judy, is an American prosecution lawyer, former Manhattan family court judge, television personality, television producer, and author. She has a net worth of $350 million. It was reported in mid-2012 that Sheindlin was the highest-paid television personality, making $123,000 per day, or $45,000,000 annually for the 52 days per year that she tapes her show. In October 2013 it was reported that Sheindlin was still the highest paid TV star, earning $47 million per year for Judge Judy.”
The Honorable Judge Judy begins her piece in USA Today by stating:
“I was invited to speak at the Cambridge Union in England earlier this month, and it was an honor to meet with so many intelligent, socially involved people. During the Q&A that followed my remarks, the moderator asked my opinion about the 2020 presidential election, and I didn’t mince words. I said our American family has been fractured in recent years. We’re hopelessly divided, and a bitterly divided family cannot thrive. The only way we can begin to come together again, I said, is if Michael Bloomberg, former mayor of New York City, becomes our next president.
I realize I am taking a personal and a career risk in making such a statement. I have carefully stayed away from politics for 50 years, except to vote. But times have changed in our country, and I believe the moment has come for me to step out from behind the curtain. I want to speak honestly and from the heart — regardless of the consequences.
I realize Michael Bloomberg said in March that he will not run for president in 2020 (though he might be reconsidering that position, according to anonymous sources). I respect his comment — but our political landscape has changed profoundly since he made it. There is ferment on the left and the right, candidacies are rising and falling, and this has created an opportunity for Bloomberg, a man of the center, to change his mind.”
Her premise that Billionaire Mayor and gun grabbing foundation funder, Michael Bloomberg, who worked to change the laws governing term limits, HIS OWN TERM LIMITS, back in 2008, would be a unifying force is flawed, on its face. At the time CBS reported:
“The New York City Council has approved changes in the term-limits law that will allow Mayor Michael Bloomberg to seek re-election next year.
The council passed the bill Thursday by a vote of 29-22. The bill gives city officeholders the option of three consecutive four-year terms.
Bloomberg announced his plans to change the term-limits law and seek re-election three weeks ago. His second term ends in 2009. He had opposed changing the law earlier in his administration, but now says he needs a third term to deal with the city’s financial crisis.”
I ask you, what kind of God complex must one have in order to be so bold as to even raise the idea of over turning the law which set your own term limits, apparently because he believed he was ‘the only one’ who could solve (or steer?) this crisis?
Perhaps the most divisive issue of our time, the one which is, pardon the pun, the biggest ‘powder keg,’ is the implementation of further restrictions on our God given rights to bear arms. Mayor Bloomberg is considered by many to be the face of the lobby to further claw back gun rights in America. His organization ‘Everytown For Gun Safety” is described by Wikipedia as:
“Everytown for Gun Safety is an American nonprofit organization which advocates for gun control and against gun violence. Everytown was founded in 2006, combining Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. Everytown for Gun Safety is largely financed by Michael Bloomberg, who also founded the group.”
I like Judge Judy, but her billionaire buddy, who used his power to … extend his own power, and is a leading funder of the most contentious issue of our time, gun control, is NOT going to be a unifying force, in my view. Anyone who is as anti-gun as Mr. Bloomberg is, in my opinion, is only going to widen the divide in our nation, potentially to the point of armed hostilities. Again, this is in no way a threat, but rather an observation: no gun owner I know is going to willingly turn over ANY of their firearms.
What a ‘surprise’ it would be if Bloomberg decided to run (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) after such a prominent piece in the legacy media’s own USA Today by a leading TV personality. It looks to me like the real Democratic nominee has yet to reveal themselves. I know that Bloomberg ran as a Republican, but perhaps this is the angle that he, and his buddies in the power structure are counting on working: running a liberal ‘Republican’ on the Democrat ticket in the hopes he can do, what I believe no other Democrat on the debate stage can do: beat Donald Trump.
Spoiler Alert: Bloomberg can’t either, in fact, I do not think he can ever come close. You can read the rest of the Judge’s OPED HERE.
