Opinion| Lawrence David| US Attorney John Durham was appointed by US Attorney General William Barr to investigate the origins of Crossfire Hurricane. For those not familiar, Crossfire Hurricane is the operation which allegedly led to the ‘spying’ on Trump’s campaign.
Wikipedia (lol) describes it as:
Crossfire Hurricane was the code name for a covert counterintelligence investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) into links between Trump associates and Russian officials and suspected coordination between the Donald Trump 2016 presidential campaign and the Russian government’s interference in the 2016 United States elections.
Durham is charged with determining whether there was sufficient evidence to justify opening an FBI investigation into the campaign of a presidential candidate in light of the political consequences that would come if it were proven to be unfounded.
That’s what causes Saturday’s seeming admission that Durham is being monitored, at least tangentially, from NBC News to raise our suspicions:
(NBC News) … Skeptics who have been trying to track Durham’s movements say he has yet to interview key figures, including former deputy FBI director Andrew McCabe, former FBI agent Peter Stzrok and former FBI general counsel James Baker.

“A Western intelligence official familiar with what Durham has been asking of foreign officials says his inquiries track closely with the questions raised about the Russia investigation in right-wing media.”
After three years of combined investigations by the FBI, special counsel Robert Mueller, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, we have exhausted the possibility that Donald Trump – or anyone associated with his campaign had anything to do with Russia.
That raises the question as to what triggered opening such a politically charged investigation? And, if the originator’s motives were pure they should sit back with confidence that Durham’s findings will support the opening of Crossfire Hurricane.
So, why in the freakin’ world would ‘skeptics’ be tracking Durham’s movements?
Surely the only evidence Durham and his team will turn up would support those original investigators. Right?
Not so fast.
Despite the fact that SC Mueller and his band of corrupt investigators spent $30 million over 22 months they relied, and then built on the assertion that Joseph Mifsud was a Russian intelligence asset, without efforting to prove – or disprove – that critical fact.
Neither did the FBI effort to prove whether Mifsud’s fealty was to Russia or the West.
Additionally, Mueller never charged Mifsud. If he was a Russian operative, then why wasn’t he charged?
Perhaps it was the inexplicable failure to confirm this basic information about Mifsud that led Durham to hop a flight to Italy that cost a lot less than $30MM and took a lot less time than 22 months.
Durham returned with two of Mifsud’s phones that heavily suggest (prove?) Mifsud was a Western intelligence asset.
While the SIM cards IDs do not definitively prove they are from the UK, it’s hard to envision a scenario where Mifsud’s Blackberries would still be in his possession, three years later, if he were working for Putin.
The call logs from Mifsud’s phones are almost certain to expose who Mifsud’s intelligence handlers were.
This would give corrupt intelligence community operatives every reason to track Durham’s movements as they effort to create firewalls in their defense.
