Last week, the corporate media and its pronoun-generating consumer base were wailing in deep thralls of ecstasy over the revelation that Star Wars actor Billy Dee Williams, 82, had come out as gender fluid and wanted people to use “her” pronouns.

Unfortunately for the gender fluid community, however, Billy Dee Williams is not among their ranks. In fact, like most people, he doesn’t even know what the term means.
Williams clarified his remarks on gender and sexuality and expressed his surprise at the media maelstrom over his supposed intersectional status in an interview with The Undefeated on Dec. 4:
âWell, first of all, I asked last night. I said, âWhat the hell is gender fluid?â Thatâs a whole new term,â Williams said in an interview with The Undefeated this week.
He was misunderstood, he says.
âBut what I was talking about was about men getting in touch with their softer side of themselves.
Thereâs a phrase that was coined by Carl G. Jung, who was a psychiatrist, who was a contemporary of Sigmund Freud, and they had a splitting of the ways because they had different ideas about the ⊠what do you call it?
Consciousness. Unconscious.
Itâs collective unconsciousness. But he coined a phrase thatâs, âAnima animus.â And anima means that is the female counterpart of the male self, and the animus is the male counterpart of the female.
âSo, thatâs what I was referring to. I was talking about men getting in touch with the female side of themselves.
I wasnât talking about sex, I wasnât talking about being gay or straight.
People should read [Jung]. I mean, it would be an interesting education for a lot of people.â
Williams went on to state that he identifies as a man and is “not gay â by any stretch of the imagination.”
