Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, who wrote the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions, penned some words that Virginians would do well to heed. The resolutions referred to the federal government, but are just as applicable in principle to state governments.
They said: “Resolved, That the several States composing the United States of America, are not united on the principle of unlimited submission to their General Government … and whensoever the General Government assumes undelegated powers, its acts are unauthoritative, void, and of no force.”
James Madison, in Federalist Paper No. 46, wrote that the Constitution preserves “the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation … (where) the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.”
Thomas Jefferson wrote: “What country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms.”
In a previous article with the headline, VA’s Countryside Billboards Warn of Northam-Bloomberg Gun Confiscation in 2 Weeks we spoke about the phenomenon blooming all over the Virginia landscape in which patriots are sounding the warning to friends and neighbors alike that the Democrats are about to take the reins of power in January, and that Governor Northam’s first target is to begin a concentrated round of gun confiscation.
A few short weeks ago, Governor Northam changed his tune a bit to say that rather than totally banning certain weapons such as AR-15 and similar sporting rifles, he would support a ban in a situation where the owner refuses to submit to register the weapon with the government.
The governor was quoted as saying, “The governor’s assault weapons ban will include a grandfather clause for individuals who already own assault weapons, with the requirement they register their weapons before the end of a designated grace period.”
On December 27, 2019, Walter E. Williams used a Fox News op-ed to warn Virginians “not to fall for the registration trick.”
He said, in part,
“In an attempt to appease citizen resistance, Northam suggested there would be a ban on only the sales of semi-automatic rifles. He would allow gun owners to keep their current AR-15s and similar rifles as long as they registered them. Otherwise, they must surrender the rifles.
Knowing who owns what weapons is the first step to confiscation.”
I believe Walter hits the nail squarely on the head. In my opinion, it’s a classic scenario of the process of what has been called the Death By A Thousand Cuts (a figure of speech that refers to a failure that occurs as a result of many small problems) that the Left has been pushing on us for years.
They know the American people will never swallow the whole Maryann in one gulp if government officials try to enforce an all-out ban, but by using the incrementalism of first registering a specific firearm, they can then expand the registration requirements to infringe on more and more of people’s Constitutional rights until NOTHING can be legally owned, and achieve their ultimate end of disarming the populace by eating the proverbial elephant one bite at a time.
As was spoken of in the previously-mentioned article, Michael Bloomberg used a portion of his substantial financial fortune to flip Virginia from Red to Blue, and Americans need to be on high alert to the manipulation the Democrats are enacting.
We have to look no further than the bogus impeachment process foisted on us by Pelosi and Company to see that the Left will stop at NOTHING to get control of the USA away from the people and into their hands. WAKE UP, AMERICA! This really IS a war!
