President Trump said on Friday that General Soleimani was planning attacks on four embassies. He said that is why he had to be stopped.
The president pointed out the attack on the Baghdad embassy earlier in the week as proof that embassies were being targeted by Soleimani, the world’s deadliest terrorist.
Earlier in the day, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said most of the same things, except he said the targets were embassies and military bases.
The Democrats and NeverTrumper Senator Mike Lee complained that the briefings did not give enough details.
There is probably a good reason for that. They were afraid to give all the details they have for fear that the Democrats would go to the press and once again misstate what was actually said, or they would give away the methods used to gather the information.
Soleimani was responsible for thousands of deaths — Iranians as well as Americans and Iraqis.
It is no stretch of the imagination to suspect he would stage attacks on embassies throughout the Middle East, but Democrats act as if we killed George Washington or Abraham Lincoln.
Yet they cheered when Obama sent in warplanes to aid the terrorists in gaining control of a good portion of Libya, including Benghazi.
Congressional Democrats and two GOP senators have complained that classified briefings on the strike provided by top administration officials were insufficient.
On Thursday, Trump told reporters at the White House that Soleimani was “looking to blow up” the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, later pointing to the violent Iran-backed protests against the embassy before he authorized the drone strike.
During a campaign rally in Ohio on Thursday evening, Trump suggested Soleimani was looking at targeting U.S. embassies but didn’t provide a number of the facilities under threat.
“Soleimani was actively planning new attacks, and he was looking very seriously at our embassies and not just the Embassy in Baghdad,” Trump said at the rally in Toledo. “We stopped him, and we stopped him quickly, and we stopped him cold.”
