OPINION| Lawrence David| To call the impeachment of President Donald Trump a sham doesn’t come close to properly describing the travesty that is unfolding in the halls of the Capitol.
There’s nothing legitimate about the Democrats’ exercise of raw political power to tar and feather President Trump. Make no mistake, that’s all this is.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), her impeachment managers, and the collection of Marxists that comprise the remainder of the Democratic Caucus in both the House and Senate, had set this course from the moment Mr. Trump was elected.
The opponent he defeated had a string of dead bodies and possible illicit pay-for-play schemes that were never investigated while Donald Trump had an almost unbroken string of successes.
It was Trump’s success that they feared. To them he was an existential threat to hold Washington accountable for the theft of $20-plus trillion from the American taxpayer.
No one had ever talked to the corrupt elitists who controlled the reins of power in the way candidate Trump did when he laid it all out in a campaign speech:
“Our movement is about replacing a failed and corrupt establishment with a new government, controlled by you the American people.
“The Washington establishment and the financial and media corporations that fund it exists for only one reason, to protect and enrich itself.
“The establishment has trillions of dollars at stake in this election for those who control the levers of power in Washington.
“And for the global special interests they partner with, these people that don’t have your good in mind, our campaign represents a true existential threat…
“…The political establishment that is trying to stop us is the same group responsible for our disastrous trade deals, massive illegal immigration, and economic and foreign policies that have bled our country dry.”
Read that last paragraph from Trump’s speech again and then realize that on the same day that he was signing an historic trade deal with China, and one day before the USMCA is going to be voted on in the Senate, Pelosi and her Democrat colleagues voted to remove Trump.
Pelosi actually bragged that she has stained President Trump’s record for eternity:
”He just got impeached. He’ll be impeached forever. No matter what the Senate does. He’s impeached forever because he violated our Constitution. If I did nothing else, he saw the power of the gavel there. And it wasn’t me; it was all of our members making their own decision.”
The timing was not a coincidence.
The fear that political parties would force our government to devolve into a corrupt cesspool goes all the way back to our nation’s founding.
George Washington warned us of this eventuality:
Perhaps this is the reason the left wants to eliminate all references to our Founding Fathers, just as you’ll read later in this column, they want to eliminate you, if you dare to disagree with their plan for total domination!
The only stain that will linger from this impeachment – an impeachment lacking any reference to a crime – was cast by Pelosi on the U.S. Constitution.
Pelosi will eventually fade from the scene but the tyrannical course she has invited her party’s followers to embrace should be feared by every American.
One only needs to watch the videos captured of one of Bernie Sanders political operatives to realize the virulent threat to our freedoms leftists represent. There are threats of violence, re-education, and gulags for those who continue to embrace capitalism.
Sanders is not a fringe candidate, either. He is leading all Democrats for his party’s nomination.
Yes, you should be afraid …very afraid. Because it is happening here.
And, the all-powerful media is cheering it on.
