He Demanded We Abolish The Police, Now He’s Suing The Police For Leaving ‘Him To Die’ In ‘Autonomous Zone’

OPINION| I feel sorry for this young man.  If his claims about what went down before the shooting, they are disgusting and should be condemned by all.  That being said, reports on the scene said that cops did show up, but were refused entry.

In addition to the shooters, this man should be suing the other protesters who allegedly hindered the police for getting to him, not the cops who risked life and limb to respond to a shooting call inside CHAZ.

Carmine Sabia| Opinion|A man who was shot during a volunteer “security shift” in Seattle’s CHOP zone now wants to sue police for not responding quickly enough to his shooting.

To put it in perspective, this is a man who went into the CHOP Zone knowing that it was constructed to keep police out.

DeJuan Young says he was technically shot outside of the CHOP Zone and that police never responded to the call.

Young, who is 33, says that the attack against him was racially motivated and has shared several videos on Twitter and other social media platforms since the incident, KIRO-7 reported.

“So basically I was shot by, I’m not sure if they’re ‘Proud Boys’ or KKK,” he said. “But the verbiage that they said was hold this ‘N—–’ and shot me.”

“And they stood over top of me and continued to fire,” the man said. “I tried to protect myself and got shot in the arm.  And they got away.”

It was part of a weekend of shootings in the zone created by liberal activists who believed they were somehow creating a Utopia governed by a warlord.

His was the second shooting over a violent weekend in the CHOP zone. Nineteen-year-old Lorenzo Anderson died the early Saturday morning Young was shot. The next morning, another teenager was wounded.  Then early this morning, shots were fired again.

Alex Bennett, a former nurse and several CHOP volunteer medics took him to Harborview in a personal vehicle.

“Someone said, ‘OK, then we’re going to get a van since no ambulance is coming,’” Bennett said. “‘We have to get this guy to a hospital.’”

The ambulances could not come because they were waiting for a police escort that did not come. These are the chances you take when you create a war zone.

“I understand everybody’s going to say, ‘Oh, it was the CHAZ zone and ya’ll asked for the police not to be there, so don’t act like ya’ll need them now,” Young said.

“But technically I was outside that area,” he said of the shooting. “I was in Seattle streets. So what’s the excuse now?”

KIRO 7 is checking with Seattle police to get their reaction to his allegations.

As for the CHOP area, both Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan and police Chief Carmen Best say they plan to shut it down and move officers back into the East Precinct.
