Mayor Jacob Frey (D-Minneapolis) is looking for federal aid to assist Minneapolis’s recovery from the protests and riots which have demolished the area.
“With at least $55 million in estimated damage and far more to come, Minneapolis will need state and federal aid as it attempts to rebuild hundreds of structures after the riots following George Floyd’s death,” Frey explained on Thursday, according to the Star Tribune.
The report continued: City officials are still putting together a complete tally of the destruction and cautioned that estimates are likely to rise significantly. Gov. Tim Walz and members of Minnesota’s congressional delegation are trying to get government assistance to offset that cost. But in the past, neither the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) nor Congress has consistently sent federal funding to cities ravaged by riots.
The city looks like a war zone.
According to Frey, the expected cost of the damage will be in the “tens, if not hundreds of millions” of dollars for what happened throughout the Twin Cities.
“We will do everything we can as we shift to recovery mode. We’re recovering from crises sandwiched on top of each other, from the (Chinese virus pandemic) to the police killing and then the looting which took place afterward,” he noted.
Nevertheless, Frey hit back at President Trump on May 29 after he criticized his handling of the violent protests and riots.
“Donald Trump knows nothing about the strength of Minneapolis. We are strong as hell. Is this a difficult time period? Yes, but you better be damned sure that we’re going to get through this,” he commented.
Then, I guess Minneapolis doesn’t need federal tax dollars for help, because they are strong as hell and they’re going to get through this.
The following day, Frey urged residents to stay home because the riots started to spread across the area:
Before George Floyd’s death, officials had been discussing how to cut $165 million from the city’s budget as they tried to account for the drop in revenue and the increased costs of responding to the latest health crisis, the Tribune noted.
“This will be a budget crunch,” Frey commented. “To say otherwise would be dishonest, but we are committed to the city. We have a committed team, and I know between our city enterprise and the strength of our communities, we’re going to get through this.”
Democrats never heard of a rainy-day-fund. The mayor allowed rioting to go on in his city. In a colossally bad decision, he told his cops to abandon a police precinct building that was then set on fire by rioters. The lawsuits against the city will soon be lining up. Maybe the city can ask Black Lives Matter or leftist Hollywood celebrities if they’ll pony up some cash to help clean up the mess that Democrats created? No worries, they’ll probably do a Go Fund Me page, because they’re not giving up any of their own millions.
Already the press is trying to help Democrats in riot-torn cities change the narrative. Here’s a big reason why Democrats in power are dangerous. They allowed their cities to be destroyed over how their own government policies created hell holes to live in for minority communities, and now to take some of the heat off of them they’re all vowing to defund their police departments, showing they have learned absolutely nothing and did absolutely nothing except leave a trail of disaster in their wakes.
The point is you can’t allow your city to be destroyed by the criminal element, continue to downplay that there even was a criminal element, and then ask for money from the very people who watched in horror as you let your city burn.
