Americans Furious After CBS Shows Viewers “Assassinate President Trump” Message On TV

Kirsters Baish| Opinion| ICYM| Spinoff series of CBS All-Access’ “The Good Wife”, “The Good Fight,” is facing some serious backlash after sending out a tweet containing an image from a recent episode that showed a list of “target words,” which included “Assassinate,” “President” and “Trump” in a red column.

There was also an orange column which began with the words, “Mar-a-Lago” and “Eliminate.”

“The episode itself focuses on the character Diane (Christine Baranski) joining a female resistance group tasked with dragging down Donald Trump’s approval ratings,” reports Fox News.

A context for the list was not provided in the since-deleted tweet. Rather, the tweet asked viewers to locate the “Easter egg.”

Fox News reports:

The egg reference ended up being linked to Kalinda, a popular character in “The Good Wife,” whose name was in the second column.

In a statement to Fox News on Monday, a spokesperson for CBS All Access said: “A social media post for ‘The Good Fight’ displayed show content that, when presented in isolation, outside of the context of the show, created an impression and provoked a reaction that was not intended.

The statement read, “The tweet showed a screengrab from the show’s fictional NSA office, including a list of standalone ‘target words’ the series’ NSA characters should look out for while conducting anonymous wire taps in an effort to protect the President and the public. However, the tweet was regrettably posted without that context, in an effort to direct fans to find an ‘Easter Egg’ clue, in reference to a past character on ‘The Good Wife,’ Kalinda, listed in the second column of the list, and the fact that the NSA is still monitoring her in the fictional world of the show.

“The post was perceived very differently than the intended result and has since been removed,” the statement finished off.

Many viewers were not happy about the Trump reference.

One user wrote in a tweet, “Yes, @CBS this is despicable to run subliminal messages encouraging the assassination of the president @realDonaldTrump I hope @SecretService investigates @thegoodfight thoroughly.”

Another wrote, “This is absolutely abhorrent and cannot be tolerated. Will @CBS allow this garbage? The show should be dropped immediately.”

One user explained that CBS would see monetary repercussions for their actions, tweeting, “Just stopped watching anything having to do with CBS, and especially, The Good Fight. Inciting political violence? Advocating for the assassination of Donald Trump? Have you all lost your minds? I’ll be contacting your advertisers.”
