In a bizarre statement, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi described police chokeholds as “a lynching,” saying she’s confident Republican lawmakers will comply with a ban on them after Democrats introduced a large package of reforms last week, according to a report.
“I can’t imagine they wouldn’t have a ban on chokeholds. Let’s get reasonable,” Pelosi (D-Calif.) said on CNN on Monday night. “A chokehold is a lynching. That’s a strangulation. It’s a lynching.”
First of all, this kook Pelosi is by her own words acting as if Republicans wouldn’t want to ban chokeholds. She’s acting like chokeholds are SO OUTRAGEOUS that even the racist Republicans should go along with banning them. What a nasty woman.
This is as blatantly political as the Democrat bill to stop violence against women, even though there are already laws all over the books, in every jurisdiction, in every state that make violence against women illegal. So, then why would they push such a bill? What the Democrats do is push something that sounds so innocuous that it will be accepted without question, until you actually research the details and come to find there are all kinds of bad things in there that most people would never agree on. And then they call you evil for opposing the innocuous idea.
Pelosi added: “I think that is almost like the lowest common denominator, but again I will leave it up to my negotiators, because as you know in a negotiation, it’s not what’s in or out, it’s the sum total of the different impact that the legislation will have in justice and policing.”
Pelosi’s words come as House Democrats and Senate Republicans led by Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) work to advance two competing police reform packages amid national unrest over police brutality and racism that began after the death of George Floyd while in custody of Minneapolis cops, working for a Democrat-run city inside of a Democrat-run state.
This is what Democrats always do. They create problems with bad policy, and when the ramifications of said bad policies, i.e. crime-ridden streets that terrorize black communities, Democrats step up very loudly and declare that what’s going on is an abomination, never mind that it’s their abomination, and that they, and only they, care enough about it to make changes. It’s despicable political posturing on display yet again.
President Trump is getting ready to sign an executive order Tuesday that will create a system for tracking police misconduct, incentivize training and send social workers on some nonviolent police calls.
The police reform bill unveiled by congressional Democrats proposed a system to track problematic officers, and would limit the safeguards in place keeping police from facing legal or civil action in court.
It will forbid cops to use chokeholds, ban police from conducting no-knock raids when serving drug warrants, which will give drug dealers the chance to flush the drugs down the toilet and/or prepare for the raid by having time to grab their guns, curtail the transfer of surplus military equipment to local and state agencies and decrease the threshold to federally prosecute officers if they exhibit a “reckless disregard” for someone’s life. When Democrats are involved, you have to worry about the definition of such things. Reckless disregard has a legal definition, but Democrats are known to change definitions as often as they change their socks.
On Sunday, Scott said the GOP bill wouldn’t embrace increasing officer liability because it would be a “poison pill.”
