Opinion| Democratic state Rep. LaShawn K. Ford wants all schools to abolish the teaching of history because he claims the version of history currently being taught leads to white privilege and a racist society.
It’s funny, but I took history lessons all through my 12 years of public school and not once did I want to buy a slave or burn a cross, nor did I read any text glorifying such behavior.
Ford explained:
“When it comes to teaching history in Illinois, we need to end the miseducation of Illinoisans. I’m calling on the Illinois State Board of Education and local school districts to take immediate action by removing current history books and curriculum practices that unfairly communicate our history. Until a suitable alternative is developed, we should instead devote greater attention toward civics and ensuring students understand our democratic processes and how they can be involved.”
Ford is sponsoring House Bill 49-54 which would end the teaching of history in Illinois schools.
The bill would not ban the teaching of all history. Elementary students would take classes on the civil rights movement. Meleika Gardner of We Will — Women Empowering Women In Local Legislation agree with Ford. My question is when we show videos of Black Lives Matter looting, burning buildings and assaulting people just for being white, doesn’t that inflame hatred against Blacks?
Gardner said:
“It is urgent that it comes to an end as we witness our current climate become more hostile. Miseducation has fed and continues to feed systemic racism for generations. If Black History continues to be devalued and taught incorrectly, then it will call for further action.”
Martin Luther King never saw, or used, violence as a tactic and he was able to do so much more than say, the Black Panthers. He spoke of love and peace and he won the hearts and minds of people in this country, coast to coast. He was killed because he was effective. America lost a great champion.
It’s all party politics. Consider this. BLM and Democrats insist that President Trump is a racist. They say that everything he does is to mollify the racists and white nationalists.
So, why did he create opportunity zones that are revitalizing decaying neighborhoods across the country.? Why did he rescue money-strapped Black colleges to keep them from folding? Why did he fight for the First Step Act? He helped put more Blacks to work in good-paying jobs like manufacturing and the oil industry.
He has done the things Democrats have promised since the 1960s. So why haven’t all the racists and white nationalists rebelled and demonstrated against him? All the polls show he has record support among Blacks and Hispanics. There must be a reason … right?
