Joe Biden’s boss sent Kamala Harris to West Virginia and Arizona in an effort to scare the two moderates into voting with the extremists. It might work on Joe Manchin because is is a squishy moderate but I don’t think they can scare Kyrsten Sinema. But, if Manchin caves, his next reelection bid could be in the Johnny flusher because part of Harris; speech is about the destruction of the coal industry.
But at least Harris came up with the perfect job for them out of work miners. The can get jobs digging up land mines. I am trying to decide if this is worse than learning to code, a profession where you can’t get blown up if you make a mistake. Manchin won his last reelection bid by only three points, but if helps kill the coal mining industry maybe he will need to learn how to code or defuse land mines.
She also said the administration wanted to work to help coal miners in West Virginia transfer their job skills.
Harris in West Virginia:
“All of those skilled workers who are in the coal industry and transferring those skills to what we need to do in terms of dealing with reclaiming abandoned land mines,” she told WSAZ.
“What we need to do around plugging leaks from oil and gas wells; and, transferring those important skills to the work that has yet to be done that needs to get done.”
Whether the Harris interviews were designed to pressure Manchin and Sinema into backing the American Rescue Plan was not immediately clear. Following the TV appearances, White House press secretary Jen Psaki was asked why the vice president chose to address local media in the two states.
“We want to make the case to the American people across the country. … This is a way to do just that,” Psaki said. She added that Harris would likely do more regional interviews in other states.
In her TV remarks, Harris explained the “urgency” of the $1.9 trillion plan that would give out an additional $1,400 in stimulus checks to Americans, expand unemployment insurance, and increase the child tax credit.
What she didn’t mention was all of the unrelated spending in the $1.9 trillion dollar spending bill. There is a clause for 350 billion dollars to bail out liberal cities and states that had draconian lockdowns.
There is another 350 billion dollars to extend benefits for unemployment that pays them more than they could make working. Besides the usual amount they get from the state, they will all get an additional $400 a week from this bill.
And for schools where teachers refuse to teach there is 170 billion dollars. Bonuses for teachers?
It will also triple the earned income for people making less than $21,000 from $530 to 1500. Plus other misc. spending.
All told, about half of the money being spent is not related to Covid-19.
