I don’t know. I find the concept very easy to understand. If you do not show up for work or you leave early, you don’t get paid. If you don’t believe me, ask your boss.
That is exactly what Republican Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has done. He has vetoed what is known as Article 10 that funds the pay for the state legislature
The Democrats walked out of the legislature to prevent bills from being voted on.
Gov Abbott said:
”Funding should not be provided for those who quit their job early, leaving their state with unfinished business and exposing taxpayers to higher costs for an additional legislative session.”
In May as the legislative session was winding down to a close, the Democrats walked out to prevent votes on a series of laws that make it much harder to cheat. Of course, that does not follow the Democrat’s game plan. They felt they had to walk out of the chambers to prevent passing bills like that. But, now they expect to get paid. Of course, Abbott could force them into a special session but legislators make more money if they have to attend a special session.

Democrats claim that it is voter suppression to insist on Voter ID laws because poor Blacks cannot get a photo ID. Really? The poor take advantage of various safety nets including food stamps and HUD. But no matter what government program you want assistance from, one thing remains constant. You must have a photo ID. Do poor Blacks and whites do without food stamps just because they need to have a photo ID?
The governor’s veto makes good on his promise from earlier this month when he stated he will veto Article 10 that funds the legislature, its representatives and their staff.
Democrats did not hide their outrage at Abbot’s decision. Texas Democratic House Leader Chris Turner said in a statement, “The tyrannical veto of the legislative branch is the latest indication that Governor Greg Abbott is simply out of control.”
“Our caucus is exploring every option, including immediate legal options, to fight back against Greg Abbott’s abuse of power,” Turner added.
