It is now official. Gavin Newsom will face a recall election this year. I could be wrong but I think it will

Newsom tried to stop the recall by convincing people to unsign the petitions. In that way, they hoped to deprive the organizers of enough signatures.
That plan was a miserable failure. For all of the money and man-hours, they were only able to get 43 people to unsign. But, now the thirty-day waiting period is up and the 1,719,900 verified signatures were well above the 1.5 million needed for the election.
The SOS said in a press release:
“Secretary Weber’s letter to the Department of Finance triggers the next phase of the recall process in which the DOF will estimate the costs of the gubernatorial recall if it is held as a special election and if it is held as part of the next regularly scheduled election.”
“These estimated costs must be submitted to the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, the Secretary of State, and the Chairperson of the Joint Legislative Budget Committee (JLBC) by August 5. Once the JLBC has had 30 days to review and comment, the Secretary of State will then certify the sufficiency of signatures according to the statute.”
Newsome has shot himself in the foot several times. He ordered businesses locked down but kept his winery open. Business owners did not like that. Imagine watching your business go under while the man who ordered the lockdown exempted his own business. Then there was the case where Newsom told people to stay home as he locked up restaurants. Then he was spotted eating at the ultra-posh The French Laundry in Napa Valley at $800 per person.
That was at the same time he banned Thanksgiving dinners with people outside the immediate family.
This is the second time in California’s history that a campaign has successfully triggered a recall election to oust a governor — out of 55 attempts!
Former California Governor Gray Davis (D) was recalled in 2003 over the state’s energy crisis, rolling blackouts, and skyrocketing car registration fees.
