House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy held a closed-door meeting for Republicans in the House. He told members if they accepted an invitation from Nancy Pelosi to serve on the January 6th commission, they should plan on getting all of their committee assignments from Pelosi because he is going to pull all of their committee assignments from the Republicans. He was more or less speaking to Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger.
Cheney has already accepted the assignment from Pelosi. Pelosi scooped her up just so she can claim it is bipartisan. At this point, she has nothing to lose. She has a better chance of hitting the Powerball Lottery than she does of being reelected in Wyoming. She has already been censured by half of the state and people have left the party because of her. But she has a bright future with CNN.
Cheney is a long-time NeverTrump stooge. She said she would vote to impeach Trump without hearing one shred of evidence. That’s all you really need to know about her. Such was the intensity of her Trump Derangement Syndrome. In early polling, she comes in a distant second for the primary. It will get worse if more people enter the race.

“If you want leaders who will enable and spread [Trump’s] destructive lies, I’m not your person, you have plenty of others to choose from,” Cheney said at the time before the vote.
According to a report, Cheney “secretly orchestrated” an op-ed in the Washington Post from all living former secretaries of defense slamming Trump’s handling of the military in January, according to the New Yorker.
A good friend of Cheney’s, Eric Edelman, reportedly told the New Yorker that Cheney had personally met with all 10 living former defense secretaries, including Trump’s first defense secretary, Jim Mattis, urging them to participate in the op-ed.
Edelman told the magazine:
“She was the one who generated it because she was so worried about what Trump might do. It speaks to the degree that she was concerned about the threat to our democracy that Trump represented.”
