Perhaps President Trump’s biggest mistake in terms of failing to war-game the likely counter moves of his opposition happened on, and leading up to January 6th.
I will admit that I was also caught up in the excitement and did not see how recruiting all those ( rightfully) angry patriots to attend the ‘stop the steal’ rally, and then march to the Capitol, would be the perfect opportunity for our adversaries to commandeer the event and use it against us.
Hitler staged the Reichstag fire, which ‘was an arson attack on the Reichstag building, home of the German parliament in Berlin, on Monday 27 February 1933, precisely four weeks after Adolf Hitler was sworn in as Chancellor of Germany. Hitler’s government stated that Marinus van der Lubbe, a Dutch council communist, was the culprit, and it attributed the fire to communist agitators.’ according to Wikipedia.
Now, there are obvious differences between the two events, and not all Trump supporters were without ‘sin’ on January 6th. Some good people broke the law, however the end result was the same: the event was used as a pretext to seize enormous sums of power and demonize the authoritarian’s political adversaries.
Consolidating power and demonizing political oposition is EXACTLY the purpose of Pelosi’s new ‘committee’.

The other 5 members will be picked with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.
Senate Republicans last month blocked legislation to establish Pelosi’s January 6 commission in its first filibuster of the Biden Administration so Pelosi is working around the GOP.
The committee chair will have subpoena power without any input from the Republican minority.’
This new resolution will be voted on by the House (which Pelosi rules over with an iron fist and controls enough votes for th ‘voting’ process to be little more than a rubber stamp) next week.
