This is much worse than the January 6th incident, IMHO. The insurrectionists actually tried to take over a federal building and they succeeded. They made demands of the government that they quit using fossil fuels before winter. Since renewables account for less than 7% a lot of people would have frozen and on top of that would miss the premiere of “Yellowstone.” Not only that, but a woman who works for the FHA, seven blocks away now needs a shrink because she thought she was going to die.
Will they now lock them up with no bail? Will 40 t0 60 law enforcement officers raid their homes, even if they never entered the Interior building? Will Nancy Pelosi for the October 14th Commission? Since this is an actual takeover of part of the government, can we now say this was worse than 9/11 and the perpetrators are more dangerous than any of the various terrorist organizations in the world? Will Christopher Wray and Merrick Garland declare environmentalists as domestic terrorists?
No, they will be treated as heroes even though they injured police officers, including one that had to be taken to the hospital. The media will say they were merely exercising their First Amendment Right to storm and occupy a portion of a federal building. Think I’m kidding you?
Here is the reaction of the Interior Department:
“Interior Department leadership believes strongly in respecting and upholding the right to free speech and peaceful protest. Centering the voices of lawful protesters is and will continue to be an important foundation of our democracy. It is also our obligation to keep everyone safe. We will continue to do everything we can to de-escalate the situation while honoring First Amendment rights.”
WTH???
Ryan Zinke, the secretary of the Interior during the Trump administration countered:
The reports and photos from the Department of the Interior headquarters are shocking and frankly sickening. Never under my watch would such blatant lawlessness and endangerment of staff and law enforcement have been permitted. Where is the liberal outrage now against lawlessness and destruction of government property? Deafeningly silent of course. I never cared about cancel culture activist backlash, and I don’t care now. The left must not hide behind identity politics and instead recognize this for what it is: A planned and organized effort to destroy government property and incite violence against federal employees and law enforcement officials. I doubt they will, but their silence speaks louder than any token statement they release.
Just keep your eyes and ears open and then compare October 14th to January 6th.
Climate protesters are now rallying outside the Department of the Interior. They’re trying to get inside but police are blocking the entrance. I can see a few Indigenous women through the doorway who are sitting on the floor inside the building and linking arms. pic.twitter.com/gDNamGAWiH
