Rich Welsh| The news cycle all last week covered the mass shooting at the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas where 19 children and two adult teachers were murdered by a lone gunman.
Democrats immediately came out with a condemnation of the “gun lobby,” the National Rifle Association (NRA) which is their bogey man whenever a shooting happens even though the NRA has never urged anyone to go into a school and start shooting up the place.
The virtue-signaling was high, my friends. The most dangerous place to be last week was between a Democrat politician and a news camera. They tried to come across as caring, empathetic lawmakers who had a set of goals in mind, including blaming Republicans for every gu mishap, stressing the need for more worthless gun control laws, and demonizing the NRA.
And they would have gotten away with it if it weren’t for the fact that they are all a bunch of lying gasbags who 364 days before last Tuesday couldn’t give a Romper Room giggle for the weekly gun shootings that occur in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s Chicago.
Starting this past Friday, just three days after the Uvalde mass shooting, through Sunday, no less than 21 people were shot in Chicago, 4 of them fatally. Not one of the pontificating gun grabbing political whores cared enough to mention it while talking about ways they can take away every law-abiding American’s right to defend themselves.
This month, Chicago saw 332 people shot. And 52 of those were killed. This is a weekly occurrence, yet we never hear about it from the Democratic Party. I believe they don’t want to talk about it because Chicago’s gun control laws are among the strictest in the country, even though some have loosened as they have been overturned over the last decade. Some weekends end with over 50 Chicagoans shot, and Democrats ignore it each week.
Chicago shootings are so well-known that Texas Governor Greg Abbott referenced Chicago’s gun problems during a press meeting after the Uvalde shooting, the same one that Bozo Beto O’Rourke pulled a political stunt by interrupting the presser and accusing Abbott for the children’s deaths even though parents of some of the dead children were sitting in the audience.
“There are quote ‘real’ gun laws in Chicago. I hate to say this, but there are more people who were shot every weekend in Chicago than there are in schools in Texas,” Abbott said Wednesday. “And we need to realize that people who think that, well, maybe if we could just implement tougher gun laws, it’s going to solve it, Chicago and L.A. and New York disprove that thesis. And so, if you’re looking for a real solution, Chicago teaches that what you’re talking about is not a real solution.”
I have written numerous stories about Chicago’s weekend gun shootings, not to trash Lori Lightfoot’s Chicago, but to highlight what’s going on in the streets there, where Democrats in the Windy City have no idea how to stop the gun violence, and none outside the city seem to care.
So, Democrats, do us a favor and until you start cleaning up your own mess inside cities that your party has run for decades with massive gun violence problems, don’t virtue-signal law-abiding gun owners because you don’t have the right. You gave that up when you took innocent people’s right to defend themselves away from them.
