Canada is moving to ban all handguns following the school shooting in Texas and many worry that Biden will use that push to move his own agenda. Peter Doocy with Fox news pressed White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre Tuesday to go on the record on the official stance.
“Canada is making it impossible to buy, sell, transfer or import handguns anywhere in that country. Would President Biden ever consider a similar restriction on handguns here?” Doocy asked.
“We’ll leave it up to other countries to set their policy on gun ownership,” Jean-Pierre said. “The president has made his position clear that the United States needs to act, as I just laid out. He supports a ban on sales of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines and expanded background checks to keep guns out of dangerous hands. He does not support a ban on the sale of all handguns.”
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau introduced legislation to freeze the future sales and purchases of handguns and impose a “buy back” of military-style semi-automatic weapons Monday. The legislation further intends to limit all long gun magazines to hold no more than five rounds and ban the sale of “high-capacity” magazines. (RELATED: Rep. “Today, we’re proposing some of the strongest measures in Canadian history to keep guns out of our communities and build a safer future for everyone,” Trudeau said in the press release.
Canada passed legislation in May 2020 banning over 1,500 types of firearms after a mass shooting in Nova Scotia that left 23 people dead.
Biden turned heads Memorial Day when he claimed that the most popular caliber of gun in America was “high caliber” and that there was “no rational basis” for Americans to use the firearms for protecting themselves or even for “hunting.”
Biden also floated the suggestion of banning the guns outright because Americans might ‘blow a lung out’.
“There’s simply no rational basis for it in terms of self-protection, hunting,” Biden claimed on Monday while comparing the difference in damage caused between a 9mm round and a .22-caliber round.
“And remember: the Constitution, Second Amendment are never absolute,” the Biden continued

I wouldn’t believe for a second that the White House has no intentions of going after handguns. The oe highlight here is that by going on records, we can hold them to their word when (not if) Biden pushed to follow his socialist buddy Trudeau’s lead.
