Republican Florida State Rep. Anthony Sabatini is making some startling suggestions after the FBI raid on President Trump. He says that the state of Florida should stop cooperating with the FBI and the DOJ. Furthermore, if the FBI comes in and works outside of the perimeters of Florida law enforcement the FBI agents should be arrested. He doesn’t just want to make this policy, he wants to make it law.
He is calling for a special session of the legislature to deal with this and codify it into Florida law.
Sabatini said:
“It’s time for us in the Florida Legislature to call an emergency legislative session & amend our laws regarding federal agencies. Sever all ties with DOJ immediately. Any FBI agent conducting law enforcement functions outside the purview of our State should be arrested upon sight.”
Many Republicans and some Democrats say the raid was politically motivated and should never be allowed to happen again. The Democrats now have no recourse but to arrest Trump for something, anything, but if they fail to convict him it will mean disaster for them both in 2022 and 2024. Already Trump’s poll numbers have increased and a record-setting fundraiser has occurred. I am convinced that the only reason some Democrats are speaking out is that they don’t want to be tarred with the same brush.
Many Republicans have described the raid of Trump’s residence as a politically-motivated abuse of power. He said state legislators needed to put pressure on the FBI by limiting local agencies’ cooperation with them and by requiring them to seek permission from the state before conducting operations in Florida.
State legislators need to ban interlocal agreements between state and local law enforcement and the FBI and require the FBI to get Florida’s permission before conducting operations within the state, he told the Daily Caller News Foundation.
“That’s just at the state level. At the federal level they need to be totally gutted and cut down,” he told the DCNF. “We need to be put it as much pressure on them as possible.”
