“I cannot continue to be a member of today’s Democratic Party.”

This was the message that Tulsi Gabbard (former Hawaii Democrat) delivered Tuesday. Her message was clear: Left-wing extremism has swept the Democratic Party off its feet.

Gabbard, 41 years old, made a 30-minute video to announce the launch of her podcast. She also included a Substack essay that accompanied it.

This move, it seems has been in the works for quite some time.

Gabbard, who represented Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District between 2013 and 2021, was becoming increasingly critical of her former party’s direction. It appears that she has decided to break with her former friends.

Gabbard, as with the Declaration of Independence, outlined her reasons for seperation.

Gabbard’s “farewell” letter emphasized that Gabbard was driven away by the Democratic Party’s abandonment and growing “wokeness” and antifamily nature.

Former Hawaii lawmaker and vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee, she said that her initial attraction to the Democratic Party was opposition to war and standing up for “the little guy”.

Gabbard stated that the Democratic Party had changed and is now under the control of an “elitist cabal full of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness.” She said that the Democratic Party of today is dividing the country through racialism, and inflames “anti-white racism.”

Gabbard stated that Democrats “actively work against our God-given rights enshrined into our Constitution, are hostile people of faith, spirituality, demonize police and protect criminals at cost of law-abiding Americans,” referring to the wave violent crime which has gripped the country in the past few years.

As Democrats would prefer you to forget, they were broadly supportive of the “defund police” movement in 2020. However, they have since tried to distance themselves form it due to its widespread popularity.

Gabbard, a lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve also lambasted Democratic Party’s foreign policies, saying that “party leaders are warmongers who are firmly held in the grips the military-industrial complex, but don’t care or know about the cost or who pays it.”

She also condemned the use federal agencies to harasses and intimidates political opponents .

Gabbard stated that Democrats leaders are undermining rule of law and turning democracy into a banana republic by using the federal law enforcement and security state for their political ambitions.

Gabbard strongly criticized the Department of Justice’s recent decision to investigate parents who protest radical curriculums in schools. One year ago, Attorney General Merrick Galrland sent an ominous note requesting that the FBI investigate “violent threats to school officials” despite the fact that there was no evidence of parents threatening schools.

Garland’s memo was a direct shot at parents who protested inclusion of critical race theory or other far-left ideas into their school’s curriculum.

She stated that, while they inappropriately used federal agencies, the Democratic Party intentionally undermined constitutional institutions that they don’t directly control, like the Supreme Court.

She stated that Senator Elizabeth Warren and Vice President Kamala Harris claimed the Supreme Court was illegitimate because they disagreed with its rulings. “The Biden administration did nothing when activists protested outside of the homes of Supreme Court justices at all hours of day and night, in clear violation federal law.”

Gabbard is right about how Democrats treat the Supreme Court, any institution that they don’t control. Some prominent Democrats have been open to their desire to fill the Supreme Court with their preferred appointees, perhaps to intimidate it into compliance.

The ex-representative from Hawaii stated that the Democratic Party “doesn’t believe in our constitutionally protected freedom to speech.” She also noted that expression and thought are the cornerstones of a “flourishing democracy.”

She stated that Democratic Party leaders are no longer standing for this and are using their power in silence to silence dissent.

They are led by fanatical ideologies who pose a threat our democracy because they don’t believe in freedom – freedom of speech, freedom thought, freedom from religion. They attempt to censor speech they don’t like by labeling it as ‘misinformation,’ ‘hate speech’ or ‘violent speech’

They work hand in glove with corporate media and Big Tech to silence political opponents and expose their insecurity.

Gabbard pointed out what was called “the Ministry of Truth”, which the Biden administration launched, then disbanded earlier in the year after it faced severe criticism. She stated that it was designed to limit what information we are allowed read, hear, or say.

Did the Biden administration really grasp the toxic nature the Homeland Security Department’s Disinformation Governance Board? Or did it just back down because it was caught and Nina Jankowicz , its appointee, posted a TikTok video that she posted like a demented and censorious Mary Poppins.

It was shameful, however, that any such government agency was even considered.

Gabbard rhetorically asked, “How can a party that opposes freedom be trusted with our democracy?” “They can’t be.”

Gabbard also highlighted the fact that the Democratic Party attempted to erase biological distinctions between men & women by “denying the existence objective truth.”

She said that Democrats are trying to get between parents and children, too, “claiming that the government knows better for your children than it does for you.”

Gabbard spoke out about Richard Levine, a transgender official.

Gabbard noted that radical ideas about gender-transitioning children don’t belong to fringe activists. They are being made federal policy under the Biden administration.

Your children will be transitioned regardless of whether or not you like it.

Gabbard’s essay is well worth the effort. It highlights the changing dynamics in American politics. Although she ran for president in 2020 as a Democrat, it is clear that her views are becoming increasingly out of tune with the party’s leadership.

The Democrat Party represents the technocratic, socially radical blob that now dominates American institutions. Some traditional Democratic voters and politicians feel alienated by it.

Does this mean Gabbard is a Republican or a “conservative?” Not necessarily. She did not announce her intention to join the Republican Party, or any other political organization.

My colleague Mary Margaret Olohan noted that her views on abortion and other issues place her outside the mainstream right.

It could be a sign that Democratic voters who share some of Gabbard’s concerns may seek out new ideas or new allies. It’s refreshing to see someone with some backbone not be afraid to fire at the far-left turn of the Democratic Party.
