Jason Miyares (Republican attorney general in Virginia) has pledged to protect parental rights following support from a Democrat in Virginia’s House of Delegates for a bill that would criminalize a parent’s disagreement about their child’s gender identity.
Glenn Youngkin (Republican governor of Virginia) announced a new strategy last month that puts parents in control when it comes to transgender identities. Elizabeth Guzman, a delegate, responded to Youngkin’s plan by pledging to strengthen laws against child abuse.
“The day Governor Youngkin wanted to implement the policy, I immediately texted that policy lead and said, This is how we’re going back,'” Guzman toldWashington’s WJLA–TV.
Guzman stated that she will reintroduce a bill to Richmond to protect LGBTQ children from their guardians and parents, if they refuse to accept their child’s gender identity. The bill would allow the state to include parental dissent on hot-button sexuality topics in child abuse and neglect.
Guzman stated that if the child shares their feelings with the mandated reporters, we are not talking about only mental abuse or physical abuse. The mandated reporter’s job is to inform Child Protective Services.
Guzman was asked by the reporter about potential penalties for a parent’s dissent. He stated that the penalty could be a felony or a misdemeanor after an “investigation.” However, the Democrat pointed out that the Child Protective Services charge could hurt your employment and could affect their education because many people conduct a CPS database search prior to offering employment.
Guzman, who represents House District 31, which encompasses portions of Prince William County and Fauquier County, insists that the bill doesn’t criminalize parents but “educate parents” because the law tells parents what the do’s or don’ts.
She said, “So this law tells you, ‘Do no abuse your children because of their LGBTQ status,'”
When The Daily Signal asked Miyares to comment on the legality of such legislation, he promised to uphold the constitutional rights of parents.
Miyares stated that the far Left does not seem to understand Virginia parents’ desire to be involved in their children’s lives. “This is another attempt to replace parents’ role with the government. The state does not have the right to provide a family with the means to raise their children. This seems like another entry in the ‘Woke Olympic’. As your attorney general, my goal is to protect the constitutional rights parents.
Guzman did no respond to The Daily Signal’s request to comment on how the bill relates to parental rights in the U.S. Constitutions and Virginia Constitutions at publication time.
Certain rights are reserved by federal and state law to persons only after the age 18. They cannot vote or serve in the military and cannot make binding contracts. Guzman insists that minors can choose their sexual orientation and gender. Parents may disagree.
Miyares joined the condemnation of Guzman’s proposal by parents rights advocates.
Fight for Schools executive director Ian Prior told The Daily Signal that the news was not shocking or as evil as it sounds. Virginia schools are keeping parents out when their children tell staff they identify as different sexes. Schools do this because they believe that parents failing to affirm is abuse.
Prior warned that “Guzman’s bill is a natural progression of what the woke Left are pushing.” “But don’t make any mistake: They will lose the fight. Those who push it will be defeated. Those who try to separate children and their caring parents will be sued and prosecuted. These activists’ sick and corrupt agendas will be a thing of the past. They will be joined by history’s villains.”
Nicole Neily, president of Parents Defending Education, stated that “Delegate Guzman’s proposed policy was breathtakingly audacious-–and unconstitutional.” “Sadly, she is well within her profession on the issue–which has been an ongoing concern of parents across America, who have watched with growing alarm the actions of school counselors.
Neily said that parents have a clear right to direct the education of their children. If this horrendous policy is codified into law, it can be challenged in court immediately.
Transgender activists claim that students are more likely than others to commit suicide if their parents and schools don’t encourage them. However, it remains uncertain if affirmation and controversial medical interventions actually aid students with gender dysphoria.
Lifelong consequences can be caused by medical interventions. According to Dr. Michael Laidlaw an endocrinologist from Rocklin, California, so-called puberty blocksers can actually cause a disease in a patient’s body. Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism is when the brain does not send the right signals to the gonads in order to make the hormones needed for development.
Laidlaw explained to PJ Media that an endocrinologist could treat a condition in which a female’s testosterone levels are outside the normal range. “We’ll treat it, and we’re conscious of metabolic problems. An endocrinologist might also give high levels of testosterone to a woman to ‘transition’ her.
Cross-sex hormones can have long-term side effects that can increase the risk of osteoporosis or other cardiovascular events.
