n Forgets Democratic Party Supports Unrestricted Abortion //
Thursday’s appearance by President Joe Biden seemed to forget that his administration, and the majority of Democrats Party members, supports unrestricted abortion.
The president spoke to reporters outside The White House on Thursday afternoon. He was asked: “Should there any restrictions on abortion at ALL?”
He replied, “Yes, there should be.” Biden replied, “It’s Roe V. Wade!” It’s Roe v. Wade! You’ll get educated!”
This is the second time the White House has omitted to address what restrictions on abortion the President supports, as Real Clear Politics White House reporter Philip Wegmann observed. The abortion restrictions have been a problem for the Biden administration. Biden and Kamala Harris , his running mate, refused to address exactly where they stood on the campaign trail.
This is likely because Democrats (and Biden) have repeatedly urged for legislation such as the Women’s Health Protection Act. A bill that would codify Roe v. Wade, and vastly expand abortions within the United States.
The Women’s Health Protection Act specifically says that the right of abortion “shall never be limited or otherwise violated.” This would have allowed abortion providers to decide whether a pregnancy was considered “viable”, effectively allowing abortions at any stage.
218 Democrats voted for the bill in the House, while 46 Democrats voted for it in the Senate.
“Make no mistake. It is not Roe v. Wade Codification,” Democratic West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin, who voted against the legislation in May , said. It eliminates 500 state laws. It expands abortion.”
Biden attacked Republicans when the Women’s Health Protection Act was rejected by the Senate. He claimed that Republicans had “chosen not to stand in the path of Americans’ right to make the most personal decisions regarding their bodies, families, and lives.”
He said, “The protections that Women’s Health Protection Act would provide are essential to the safety, health, and progress of this nation.” “While this legislation was not passed today, my Administration will continue to fight for women’s access to reproductive care.”
The Democratic candidates have also shied away from defining their positions on abortion, allowing Republican opponents to insist that they support unrestricted abortion right up to birth. Independent Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders (then a Democrat), stated in 2020 that “being pro-choice” is an essential part of being a Democrat.
Supporting abortion is a key criterion for many Democratic politicians. After strong opposition from left-wing activists and pro-abortion groups, Biden dropped his support of the Hyde Amendment during the last presidential election cycle. This amendment prohibits federal funding of abortions.
Polling indicates that Americans are against unfettered abortions. CBS polling in May showed that only 17% believe abortion should be legal at any stage of a mother’s life. Similar Pew Research polls in May 2022 found that 19% of Americans believe abortion should be legal in every case. A August 2022 Rasmussen survey found that only 13% likely California voters believe abortion should be legal at all.
According to a Gallup poll, 63% of Americans believe abortion should be illegal or only allowed under certain circumstances. Fox News polling showed that 54 percent of Americans believed abortion should be illegal within 15 weeks. YouGov polling also found that 73% of Americans support age-based restrictions on abortions in 2022.
