rd from Don McLean // Scott Johnson
In this Sunday Morning Coming down 2019 edition, I wrote a tribute to Don McLean, singer/songwriter. I interviewed Don for the 2020 installment. This statement from Don’s public relations company condemning anti-Semitism has just been sent to us:
A flood of antisemitic invective has been generated by the ranting of an attention-seeking fool that we all know. I want to stand with my Jewish friends, and I stand for the state of Israel. This is why Israel’s state must be protected and respected when it happens.
From 1978 to 1982, I lived in Israel and fell in love with the country and its people. My life was forever changed by living there.
– Don McLean
I appreciate his decency and want to add it my previous comments about Don’s work. Don’s statement is accompanied with three versions of his song “Jerusalem”, the original recording is from Believers (1981). The Jordanaires provide vocal backing.
