CNN Poll Maven: Biden Looks Like a Loser for Congressional Dems

Listen to Harry Enten, CNN polling wizard! Joe Biden looks like a loser!

Enten examined Monday’s New Day the relationship between president’s approval rating, and the results of his party’s midterm House election.

Enten pointed out that Presidents Trump, Obama and Clinton had lower approval ratings at their midterms. Their parties lost 40, 63 and 54 House seats respectively.

Biden’s approval rating of 42% is lower than the ratings of previous presidents. George W. Bush, in 2002, was the only president whose party won seats at the midterms. He had a staggering 63% approval rating.

Concluded Enten: Joe Biden looks more like the losers than the sole winner.

Who are we to disagree with?

Note: Enten’s bad news didn’t stop there. He cited a CNN poll that showed that while in June and July only 51% of voters disapproving of Biden intended to vote for Republicans in Congress, this percentage had risen to 61% by September/October.

CNN polling expert Harry Enten noted historical trends in which the opposition party tends make large gains in midterm House seat when the president is less than 50%. This was based on the fact that Joe Biden with a 42% approval rating “looks like the losers.” He was sponsored by Liberty Mutual, GoDaddy and AT&T.

Here’s the transcript.

JOHN BERMAN – Joe Biden, President of the United States, is not helping Democrats right now.

HARRY ENTEN : No. This is basically the whole idea. Can Democrats outrun Joe Biden? We want to start by looking at the history. This should give you an understanding.

Take a look at the presidents before they began their terms. 42% for Biden is a lot Trump. Obama was slightly higher than Clinton. George W. Bush is way higher!

Consider these gains that the opposition party would eventually make, even though the president’s approval rating was less than 50%. 40 seats for the opposition party. Opposition party 63. Opposition party 54. All when the president’s approval ratings were below 50%. Only when the president’s approval rating was high above 60, did the president’s party gain?

Joe Biden seems a lot more like the losers than the sole winner.

BERMAN: What about Democrats who want to outrun Joe Biden?

ENTEN: John, I don’t believe it. This is our poll, right? This is the vote of those who disapprove of Biden’s performance.

In June and July, the lead for Republicans was 51%. High. Look at the numbers in September and October. This lead increased to 61 points. The closer we get to the midterm elections, it seems that those who don’t like Biden are more likely to vote for the Republican camp.

BERMAN: Harry Enten thank you so much for this explanation.

ENTEN: I do my best.
