MSNBC Deadline: White House host Nicolle Wall used part of her show to call for other countries, not to condemn foreign interference in elections. This she said to Democratic Congressman Jim Himes, CT, who seemed to suggest that he might be open to the idea at some point.
“I don’t want to get off-topic but the threats to our election in – what? Two and a half months – are so pervasive, they’re dire, and they include violence,” she declared, without citing any evidence.
She suggested that the U.S. should have other countries run our elections and treat us as a war-torn, unstable country. “Is it not time to ask our friends and allies to help us monitor elections?” She pressed.
Himes didn’t give a full-throated denial of the idea. He said that he wasn’t there yet. This suggests that he might be open to it at one point.
He said, “And I understand why you’re asking the questions you’re asking, and you’re right,” with the understanding that Republicans were the problem. Without proving it, he suggested that there were places in America where armed observers intimidated voters, making America seem like a “third world country”.
I’m referring to the intimidation that is used around polling stations. You’ve seen pictures of men with assault weapons in the vicinity of boxes. It’s quite scary. That was once again the province of – I hate the term, but “third world” countries that didn’t care about democracy.
Wallace said, “But no, look. This is something we can work out ourselves.”
He then suggested that America should treat Republicans as a foreign threat, like Russia and China.
The United States will need to decide collectively that we are going to oppose Russians, Chinese, North Koreans, and Iranians playing around with our elections and we are not going allow the Republican Party to do so.
Wallace was silently in agreement.
Wallace believed that foreign interference in elections was a bad thing at one time, late in 2019, eons ago. Trump solicited foreign interference- he planned to delay military aid until he received it – and Dems are shouting at each other about legal, disclosed, regulated donations that could be used to pay for ads reminding voters that Trump cheats in elections. She snorted, “The parallel playing fields = amazing.”
What keeps foreign influence from our elections? Wallace says that inviting foreigners to run our elections is a good idea.
