Meta Exec Claims Neutrality, Says Congress Should “Set” Speech Rules

Two weeks remain before the U.S. midterm elections. Nick Clegg, President of Meta Global Affairs, appears to be working overtime to placate critics of the company’s biased content moderation policies.

Clegg spoke at the “Social Media and Digital Diplomacy” event hosted by think tank Council on Foreign Relations on October 21. Clegg attempted to portray the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, as neutral during the interview.

This week’s episode on CensorTrack was with Paiten. We exposed Meta as it really is: A platform that caters to anti-free speech radicals.

Clegg assured attendees that Meta was committed to election integrity and political neutrality. Clegg also deflected responsibility from content moderation by blaming U.S. law system.

He said, “It would have been so much better if we were basically told what the rules are by Congress in terms of where to draw the line about the acceptable and unacceptable.”

Clegg’s comments can be described as empty platitudes. Meta has shown bias in its content moderation policies.

Facebook banned former President Donald Trump from using its service in 2021, a major blow to free speech online. Zuckerberg stated at the time that the risks of allowing President Trump to continue using our service were “simply too high.”

Meta-owned Instagram suspended TReVoices, an activist account that sought to protect children from “medical transformation” at the end of July. Scott Newgent, a biological woman who experienced the life-altering effects and has since become a vocal advocate “stopping medical transiting children worldwide and making transhealth safe,” founded TReVoices.

Facebook even censored biblical Scripture. Facebook placed a sensitive content filter on a Bible verse graphic. Facebook deemed the image potentially harmful or inappropriate for some reason.

Meta, and all other Big Tech platforms, need a backbone.

The company has given in to radical anti-American ideology and allowed it to be infiltrated.

Before and after the U.S. 2022 midterm elections, we need to call on Big Tech companies and the First Amendment to be mirrored, as well as transparency, clarity on hate speech, and equal footing for conservatives.
