MSNBC Doesn’t Understand Why Voters Choose GOP on Economy, Insists That It’s Great

On Thursday, Stephanie Ruhle, MSNBC’s host of The 11th Hour, shamed voters for believing that voting for Republicans would improve the economy. Mark McKinnon, The Circus producer, insisted that the economy is doing fine so Democrats still have a chance.

McKinnon was addressed by Ruhle, who asked, “Mark, you’re in Pennsylvania, you speak every day to voters. We know that they are concerned about the cost of living. But have they ever shared their thoughts on what they would get if they had a different party in control?

Ruhle was unsure of what “they” will get. “Joe Biden just stated that when it comes down to cutting Social Security or Medicare, are they aware that?”

Only Stephanie Ruhle could understand why voters wouldn’t vote for the party responsible for the current state of affairs. McKinnon, for his part, said that “No, they don’t think so” and suggested that people prefer the party out of office as a normal midterm trend. He also lamented Democrats’ focus on the Dobbs ruling. “It is unfortunate because they could chew and move simultaneously, and have discussed a bunch of legislative economic measures that will help cushion people against inflationary pressures.”

It’s hard to argue that argument when top Democrats admit that they knew large amounts of spending would cause higher inflation. But McKinnon tried to claim the economy was doing great and to talk up the country’s jobs outlook, which, as Stephanie knows, is very positive and we now have a great rate of growth.

McKinnon reaffirmed his belief that midterms are often a disaster for the party in power. He said Democrats could still have hope. “But we have a good report today. Although there is still time, I will also add that voters are looking ahead when they consider the economic conditions. They are not looking at the current situation, but at the future. Democrats have a very limited window of opportunity. But they could use the megaphone to help.

Unfortunately, for McKinnon and Ruhle, it won’t.

Chase sponsored this segment.

STEPHANIE ROHLE: Mark, when you’re in Pennsylvania, you speak every day to voters. We know that they are concerned about the cost of living. But have they ever shared with you their expectations about what they will get if they have a different leader? Joe Biden said that Medicare and Social Security will be cut. Are they aware of this?

MARK MCKINNON (NOT): They are not. It’s a simple proposition that they feel bad and want to change horses. But I believe that, I think that Democrats and the Biden Administration made a bet and placed all their money on the Dobbs decision this Summer.

It is unfortunate, because they could chew and walk simultaneously. I have discussed a number of legislative economic measures to cushion people from inflationary pressures and to talk up the country’s jobs outlook, which, as Stephanie knows, is very good. We now have a great rate of growth.

I believe that the Democrats could have done better in promoting the economy. It’s always difficult to be the party in power when things aren’t going well. We have a positive report today. Although there is limited time, I will also add that voters look forward when considering the economic conditions. They are not looking at where things are at the moment, but at where they see them going. Democrats have a very limited window. However, if Democrats get out the megaphone it could help.
