Elon Musk claims that Twitter is about to see changes just one day after closing a deal to buy the platform for $44 Billion.
Musk, who expressed concern over one-sided content moderation has said that a council with “widely varied viewpoints” will set the platform’s standards for removal.
Twitter user Twitter said that Twitter would be forming a content moderation committee with a wide range of viewpoints. He tweeted Friday afternoon. “No major content decisions will be made or account reinstatements will take place before that council convenes.”
AP News reported that Musk fired Parag Agrawal, Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal, Chief Legal Counsel Vijaya Gadde, and CEO Parag. After taking control of the company, Sean Edgett was immediately fired.
Musk’s decision is part his long-term plan for the platform to be transformed into something completely different. NewsBusters reported last week that Musk plans to layoff nearly 75% of his employees.
Musk stated earlier in the year that he wanted to buy the platform to promote free speech online, after criticizing the company’s unfairly censoring content.
He tweeted in March, “Given Twitter serves as de facto the public square, failing to adhere free speech principles fundamentally undermines Democracy.”
He summarized his views on the subject by stating that “[f]ree Speech is Essential to a Functioning Democracy.”
It seems that he has so far adhered to that declaration.
