‘Preferencing’ Democrats: Senator Blackburn Slams Google’s Election Bias in MRC Study

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R. TN) took to Fox Business in an attack on Google for its political “preferencing” in the search engine. She based her comments on Media Research Center’s recent study on Google’s search bias towards Republican candidates in top senate seats.

Maria Bartiromo, Fox Business’s Mornings With Maria host, interviewed Senator Blackburn about MRC Free Speech America’s recent Google search bias study. Bartiromo cited a study that showed Google’s search algorithms “favored Democrat Candidates” in ten of twelve major Senate races when compared to Bing and DuckDuckGo which use the same parameters.

Bartiromo stated that Google is now facing accusations for manipulating search results. “The Media Research Center states that ten of twelve Republican campaign websites received significantly less search results than their Democratic counterparts.” Blackburn was not shy about his assertions. Blackburn agreed, saying that “This is something which appears to be intentional. “Is this an in-kind contribution to Democratic campaigns?”

Bartiromo said that the watchdog also showed results that were completely different from search engines like DuckDuckGo or Bing. The senator also condemned Google’s “preferencing” of Democrat Senate candidates over Republicans. This research is particularly significant because MRC has previously found that Big Tech suppression was a key factor in the theft of the 2020 election for Joe Biden. The latest research by MRC is particularly alarming given recent developments about Google allegedly sending millions in spam emails to the Republican National Committee.

Bartiromo pointed out that all RNC “get out the vote” emails were sent to spam folders via Google’s Gmail.

Blackburn said that the Republican conference met with Google and another major mail vendor to discuss spam bias. Blackburn stated that Google’s answers were not satisfactory and cited an example of the apparent suppression of emails by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL).

Blackburn stated, “You have to see how Big Tech is using its power, just like they did in 2020 to help to manipulate results.”

After Blackburn praised the RNC’s lawsuit against Google regarding Gmail bias, Blackburn referred to MRC’s recent study on Google’s search engine bias. Blackburn stated that Google will prefer a Democrat over a negative story and will suppress the ability for users to connect with campaign websites. This is based on MRC’s recent study.
