Elon Musk stated that he will “look into” increasing censorship on Twitter during 2022’s election season.
Musk, who bought Twitter for $44 Billion last week, was responding in tweet form to Tom Fitton, President of Judicial Watch.
Fitton shared an article alleging the platform “flagged” a report on ballot harvesting.
“Election censorship is back as @Twitter flags the ballot harvesting report. Fitton tweeted Saturday that @ElonMusk should examine how the company is interfering with the election for the Left.
Musk replied several hours later, saying that he would “look into” the increased censorship.
He responded by tweeting, “I will investigate this.” “Twitter should be fair and not favor one side,” he tweeted in response.
NewsBusters reported that Facebook and Twitter will increase their censorship of misinformation during the 2022 midterm elections season.
“Facebook’s parent company Meta quietly disclosed that it is working to combat so-called election misinformation. The platform claimed it had created a dedicated team to combat voter interference and election fraud in the 2022 midterms.
Meta’s 2022 midterm elections policies indicated that the government could even collaborate with the platform in censoring content. “We are working with federal government partners, including the FBI and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. We also work with local and state election officials and industry peers to ensure we’re all prepared for different scenarios …'”
Musk is known for speaking out against online censorship.
He tweeted that Twitter “serves as the de facto central town square”, and that failing to adhere to free speech principles “fundamentally undermines democracy,” in March.
