Strangely, American culture has moved so far from MLK’s dream, that people are judged on the content of their character rather than the color of their skin.
This trend has been around for decades. Sacheen Cruz, actress and activist, is an example. The Apache accepted Marlon brando’s Best Actor Award at 1973 Oscars as a political stunt. She spoke to the assembled stars about Indian history and how they portray them. Hollywood was not as awake back then so she was booed, and allegedly black-balled from the industry.
The Motion Picture Academy had previously apologized to Littlefeather for what The Hollywood Reporter called “harassment, discrimination.” Littlefeather passed away shortly after.
Except that her name was not Littlefeather. She wasn’t Apache. She was not an American Indian.
Although she was Mexican-American, she pretended to be Native American. Trudy Orlandi, her sister, explained that she was not going to be a Mexican American princess. You’re going be an American Indian princess. It was more prestigious to be an American Indian in her mind than to be Hispanic.”
In the left’s Oppression sweepstakes, American Indians did better than Mexicans at that time.
