The View: Dems “Don’t Control” Corporations, GOP “Screwed up Economy”

The View cast flipped ABC’s Standards and Practices division on Thursday as they went on a trip to fantasyyland and spread a lot of disinformation about the economy and the people responsible. The truth was brutally killed on the stage between Joy Behar’s claims that Republicans screwed up America and Sunny Hostin’s absurd assertions that no Democrats run corporations.

The conversation was sparked in part by Whoopi Goldberg’s obsession over false claims made by Katie Porter (Democratic Congresswoman) about oil companies price gouging, despite fact that the Federal Trade Commission’s efforts have been unsuccessful. Goldberg claims that the Democrats don’t have a messaging problem, but that “the media isn’t reporting any of it.”

“I don’t get why we have to lower gas prices. They didn’t have the right to go up. You were making — what was the point? She screamed. Blame the media. Joy Behar encouraged Joy to blame the media.

Behar then launched a hate-fueled, factless rant against Republicans. “The Republicans have historically screwed up our economy. She snorted that it was a myth that Republicans are better at economic management. She claimed that 13 of America’s 17 most recent recessions were triggered by Republicans, but she didn’t have any evidence.

That number included 1981 (offensively, she ignored how President Carter’s policies gave that to President Reagan) as well as 2020 (despite an artificial pandemic causing that artificial one). They also refused to acknowledge that we are currently in President Biden’s recession due to his massive, runaway expenditures.

“The deficit increases every time Republicans are in power.” Behar declared that then the Democrats must sweep it all up, and fix it all. Behar then returned to her routine bashing of struggling Americans. “And [Democrats] win because people, like I don’t know their thoughts right now, then the Dems must come in and fix them again.”

While Alyssa Farah, a weak Republican host, invited her co-hosts on the show to blame Republicans, she did not forget a key fact that none of them wanted to be in America’s heads when they vote: “Democrats control all, and real Americans are struggling right at this moment.”

Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines and others were shocked by this inconvenient truth. They tried desperately to deflect. The former fabricated a huge pants-on-fire lie, claiming that “Democrats don’t control corporations” and that “Republicans are controlled by corporations”.

However, Democrats control corporations. According to The Wall Street Journal, nine out of the 10 largest political contributors in 2016 gave to Hillary Clinton, a total of $86.7 million.

Joseph Vazquez, MRC Business assistant editor, has documented that former 2020 Democratic presidential candidate and New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg spent $100 million in 2020 to try and float Biden in Florida. He also spent $20 million on down-ballot elections. Tom Steyer, a hedge fund billionaire, also spent $342 millions on his own Democratic presidential campaign in 2020.

This is not to mention George Soros and the heads tech corporations like Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook), Amazon and The Washington Post), and Tim Cook(Apple). All are liberal Democrats.

Haines, for her part, didn’t like the fact that Democrats control the levers in government. She said that the Senate was so close, so it was impossible to pass anything. Haines then demanded that Democrats adopt a radical wartime policy to confiscate money via an excessive profit tax (Click “expand”)

HAINES: Sunny’s point about corporations not controlling [Democrats] is now solved. One thing they could do, however, is to implement a temporary excess tax on profits. This has been done before during wartimes in this country’s history.

GOLDBERG: Yep.

HAINES: Bernie Sanders tried to get past it, but I think that he may have been too high on the percentage. It is a start.

Farah Griffin, a deceptively-titled “Inflation Reduction Act,” popped their bubble as they were getting close to the end of the conversation. “[N]ow]ow we’re actually seeing it raises taxes but hasn’t decreased inflation.” She noted that you can call a bill any name, but it doesn’t matter if it’s not something people feel in the pockets.

Goldberg was not open to hearing the facts and suggested that corporations were sinking it. She chuckled, “Well, inflation will not decrease no matter how you do it until THEY decide to take less. And that is a huge problem.”

These delusions were made possible by lucrative sponsorships from Vicks, Angi. Their contact information is linked.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG – One thing that drives me crazy is when people ask, “Why don’t the Democrats get their message out?” I realized that it isn’t the Democrats who are the problem. It’s the media that isn’t reporting this. This information came to my attention yesterday, and I thought, “If you tell me that there were two years of not working.” Nobody was working. The government provided some assistance to help us pay our rent and take care of our business.

You’re raising prices for stuff when you don’t have to. I don’t get how you can lower the prices and still keep what you have. I don’t get why we have to lower gas prices. They didn’t have the right to go up. You were making — what was the point? !

JOY BEHAR: Blame media. Blame the media.

GOLDBERG : I blame them because this information should be out, but it isn’t.

BEHAR: Corporations will do whatever it takes to make more money. It must be reported. This is the only thing you can really do.

Let me just say this:

GOLDBERG: You can speak for everyone.

BEHAR: I know that it’s your birthday but —

SUNNY HOSTIN : Yes.

BEHAR: In the past, the Republicans have ruined the economy. This myth is based on the belief that Republicans are better at economic management. In the last 100 years, the United States has experienced 17 recessions. 13 of them were under Republicans, okay? The great depression and all the recessions that we can recall, 1981, 2007 and 2020, were all under Republicans!

The deficit increases every time Republicans are in power. The Democrats then have to sweep it all up and fix everything up. They lose because people don’t know what they are thinking right now. And then the Dems have have to fix it again. This is what is happening.

Go ahead.

ALYSSA FARAH FIFFIN: I would simply say, blame whoever you like, whether it’s corporations and Republicans. Real Americans are in trouble right now because Democrats control everything.

HOSTIN: But Democrats don’t control corporations. In reality, when Republicans are elected, corporations control them and give corporate tax breaks.

[Applause]

BEHAR: Right. That’s right.

HOSTIN: Corporations don’t pay enough for Republicans.

[Applause]

The other thing I find fascinating is that Americans would have more than twice the income if the economy grew at the Democratic rate over the past ninety years. This is a Republican problem and not a democratic one.

SARA HAINES – So listen, when you claim they [Democrats] control all, the problem I have with that is that we can’t seem get any movement because of the Senate being so close, so nothing is possible to pass. Sunny’s point regarding corporations and government not controlling them is being addressed. One thing they could do, however, is to implement a temporary excess profits tax. This has been done before during wartimes.

GOLDBERG: Yep.

HAINES: Bernie Sanders tried to get past it, but I think that he may have been too high on the percentage. It is a start.

If you think about how we all adapt to the ground and struggle for food and fuel, you’ll see that corporations should also do their part, even in a free marketplace.

GOLDBERG Yeah.

FARAH GRAFIN: However, Democrats were able to pass the Inflation Reduction Act on a bipartisan basis. But now we see that it raises taxes but hasn’t reduced inflation. You can call a bill whatever you want, but it doesn’t matter if it’s not something people actually feel in their pockets.

GOLDBERG – Inflation will not decrease, no matter what you do, until THEY decide to take less. That is a huge problem.
