WashPost Creates a List of Twitter Alternatives Following Musk’s Takeover

Are you a leftist in crisis because Elon Musk, the new CEO of Tesla, promised more online freedom speech? The Washington Post has some recommendations.

An article entitled “You’ve decided not to use Twitter anymore” was published. Here’s how you can replace it,” The Washington Post offered a list of alternatives for Twitter that allows you to do certain things on Twitter, including news, nonstop scrolling, and networking. This is because, supposedly, “misinformation,” has increased on the platform.

The Post claimed that “hate speech,” misinformation, and harassment have all increased on Twitter since Musk’s acquisition. Although the outlet acknowledged that “dismantling Twitter could mean spreading your online presence across multiple apps”, it argued that this can be a good thing and offered several alternatives to Twitter.

The Post reported that Mastodon had gained 22,139 new accounts in the past week, and 10,801 the day after Musk took control.

The Post suggested that Apple News and Google News were more reliable news sources than Twitter. This suggestion is at best questionable, as MRC Free Speech America recently exposed Google’s bias against Republicans in 10 of 12 major Senate races.

Although you may lose out on “thoughts and fascinating people for free”, those brilliant thinkers are still posting elsewhere, The Post stated. Ironically, The Post mentioned Substack, which The Post itself excoriated earlier this year for allowing supposed “misinformation”-spreaders to post.

The outlet’s Saturday piece encouraged Twitter users to switch to four multibillion-dollar platforms in its piece: “Instagram TikTok YouTube and LinkedIn.”

The Post advised that you keep your “lasting” relationships built on Twitter elsewhere.

The Post also recommended Reddit, Mastodon, and Facebook groups as alternative “communities.”

The Post recommended other platforms for live audio and networking, and continued to promote TikTok’s solid “nonstop” alternative to Twitter. Catherine Szpindor, the Chief Administrative Officer of the U.S. House, issued a “cyber advisor” on TikTok in August. She deemed the app “highly-risk” due to China’s accessing American personal data through the platform.

The Post concluded that even if you don’t worry about your Twitter presence, it is a good idea to export a copy of your Twitter data so you have a list for people you follow before they leave.
