One of the most prominent themes in liberal messaging is that democracy has been “endangered” due to waves of “misinformation and conspiracy theories. But aren’t liberals sometimes guilty of creating wild conspiracy theories that don’t turn out be true?
One of the most resonant points is the liberal belief that Donald Trump conspired with the Russian government in order to steal the 2016 elections. This conspiracy theory was so popular that the media devoted years to it, until Robert Mueller, the special counsel, concluded that it didn’t really exist.
A leftist group called Indivisible released a video on Oct. 21 with Hillary Clinton, claiming that “right-wing extremists are plotting to take over the country in 2024.”
Clinton stated, “I know that we are all focused on 2022 midterm elections and they are incredibly significant.” “But we must also look ahead because, you know what? Our opponents certainly are. Right-wing extremists have a plan to steal the next presidential election and they aren’t making it a secret.
It also came with a website called CrushTheCoup.org. They warn that “MAGA has a plan in place to steal the election of 2024.” We must stop them today.” The conspiracy is that the radical Supreme Court will rule that state legislatures have the right to overturn election results.
Here’s how to tell that this video (with 3,000,000 views on Twitter) is embarrassing for the liberal media, who bray every day about “election deniers” and “Stop the Steal”. Clinton’s echo was not helpful for their narrative, so it was overwhelmingly skipped.
This is a surprising story considering that Clinton was the 2016 Democratic nominee for president and claimed that Trump was an “illegitimate” president. You can search Nexis to find that ABC, NBC, PBS, NPR, MSNBC and even MSNBC ignored it. Next, you can turn to print journalists. It was ignored by the Associated Press! This clip was not found by USA Today, The Washington Post and New York Times.
Nine days later, on Sunday, CBS “Face the Nation”, host Margaret Brennan mentioned it to Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-N.Y.), who insisted that they would adhere to the 2022 election results.
Brennan replied, “I’m glad that you said that.” Brennan also said, “because there has been a lot attention drawn to comments made by some Democrats, including Hillary Clinton. She was speaking about upcoming elections and said that right-wing extremists have a plan to steal them. And they are not making a secret of that plan.
Maloney stated, “I don’t understand what that means and I didn’t see the comment.”
Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla. also brought it up on Sunday’s “State of the Union”. “We have Hillary Clinton saying that the ’24 election could be stolen. We have Stacey Abrams, the Georgia Democratic gubernatorial Candidat, stating that she didn’t lose.
CNN’s Inside Politics featured it on Halloween. But, they dismissed it. CNN host John King showed a brief clip of Scott, but not any film of Clinton, and said, “But if those things are wrong, let’s say they are misdemeanors below here compared with saying that the Jan.6 defendants are being persecuted.”
Manu Raju, a CNN reporter, said, “If your intention is to criticize Hillary Clinton’s statements about 2024, maybe make a point of Donald Trump’s centrality of everything.”
But that’s their problem. Trump sounds like Clinton, so the media can’t honestly admit that it exists.
