ooo ….He is Back! // (John Hinderaker)

I believe the GOP is close to a sweep of the 2022 midterm elections. Both the Senate and the House will be in Republican hands in January, I believe. Is there a flies in the ointment? It is: Donald Trump is about to announce his 2024 presidential nomination.

Two sources confirmed to The Post that former President Donald Trump will announce his long-awaited third run for the White House sometime later in the month.

One source said that the 45th president would launch his bid on Nov. 14, which is the Monday following the midterm elections. Another source claimed that an announcement would be made sometime in the month, but had not heard of any specific date.

Six days after Republicans are expected make big gains in the House, the announcement date was first reported by Axios. It cited three sources who were familiar with the “sensitive conversations.”

This was what we had been anticipating, of course. Trump has behaved at every stage like he was about to enter the 2024 presidential race. Despite this being not surprising, it should be troubling to conservatives. It can only be good news for liberals.

I often stated that Trump was a very competent president. This is our best since Ronald Reagan. But that’s not the end of the story. He has said and done a lot of stupid stuff. He now carries his mistakes as a chain and ball. Although the Democrats’ attacks against Trump are often unfair, they are not necessarily fabricated. There is a reason that half of American voters won’t vote for Trump in 2024. It is safe to say that this kind of handicap has never been a problem for any successful candidate.

They are waiting for Trump to be elected, and are lying to the Democrats. They even plan to create a special counsel in order to investigate Trump full time if he runs for office in 2024.

According to reports, the Justice Department is considering the possibility of appointing an attorney special to oversee federal investigations related to Trump’s former president.

The DOJ is investigating Trump’s efforts to overturn 2020’s presidential election, as well as his alleged mishandling top-secret documents stored at his Mar-a-Lago estate. …

These investigations are mostly bogus. However, Trump made serious errors in connection to the January 6 demonstration for which I criticized at the time and with regard to his post-presidency sloppy handling classified files, which may technically have been a crime.

Sources told CNN that DOJ officials are weighing whether appointing an attorney special would help protect the Justice Department against claims that the Biden administration is pursuing his top political rival.

Just what we need! A presidential candidate who starts the race with a special counsel and is in serious danger of being indicted. While I sympathize with Trump’s insanity regarding the Democrats’ attacks on him, the stakes are too high to not be rational for Republicans. There are many great candidates who don’t suffer from Trumps disabilities and are at least as conservative than he is.

There are basic considerations that apply, besides Trump’s fatal flaws. Voters want to look forward and not back. This is why the political parties don’t nominate someone who lost last time. It didn’t work with Adlai Stevenson, although in that instance, the Democrats had the excuse that their candidate wasn’t a sacrificial lamb. This won’t work with Donald Trump. No one wants another 80+-year-old president. The presidency is a difficult job that requires a lot of energy.

Everyone has been reminded by the peril of a mentally ill president by Joe Biden’s pathetic act. If Donald Trump were to win in 2024, he’d be older than Joe Biden at the start of his term. Is it possible to believe that the American people will vote in favor of another geriatric administration. Joe Biden will not be the nominee for Democrats. They will be accompanied by someone younger than Bill Clinton in 1992.

With this year’s election, the conservative movement will likely make a significant step forward. We should be able to increase our gains in 2024. The Democrats lack any good presidential candidates while we have many excellent ones. We can only lose our advantage by nominating an old man, who has been discredited in the eyes at least half of American voters and who has made himself vulnerable to endless legal investigations and harassment. With one exception, I believe that almost any Republican can win 2024 the presidency. Donald Trump would lose, I believe.

Let’s not be stupid.
