Friday The Wall Street Journal reported that Illinois’s public sector is expensive because of the high number and high-paying “civil servants”: “Many states offer high salaries for public employees, but Illinois state employees are the second highest-paid in the country, adjusted for cost of living according to Wirepoints. According to this metric, the Land of Lincoln outperforms New York, California, and New Jersey. This is why Illinois residents pay the second highest property taxes.
