York City tourist’s father killed in New York City. Hochul is criticized as “out of touch with suffering of families such as mine” //
The father of a 20 year-old Indiana tourist was shot and killed in New York City. According to a report, Kathy Hochul is “tone-deaf” to the suffering of families such as mine.
Ethan Williams, a sophomore studying film media at Indiana University was reportedly on a dream trip to New York City. He was sitting on the stoop at an Airbnb with friends in Bushwick in Brooklyn, at 2:30 a.m. on Oct 24, 2020, when he was shot in his chest.
William Freeman, 26, was taken into custody last week but an arrest wasn’t made.
Freeman allegedly claimed that he mistook Williams’ friend for a rival gang member who had murdered his cousin when he opened fire on the group two years ago.
According to the New York Post, Freeman was granted $350,000 bail by Leigh Cheng of Brooklyn Criminal Court, despite nine previous arrests.
Williams’ father Jason Williams, who was interviewed by the outlet, blasted Hochul and the decision during an interview.
The elder Williams spoke of an exchange between Hochul, and Republican candidate for governor Rep. Lee Zeldin during their first and only October debate. Zeldin complained that Hochul “still hasn’t talked about locking down anyone who commits any crime.”
Hochul replied, “Anyone who commits crime under our laws, especially with their change to bail, has consequences.” I don’t understand why this is so important to you.
Jason Williams explained to The Post that hearing one candidate say to the other, “I’m not certain why that’s important to you” in regard to crime surges New York is tone deaf to the sufferings of families like mine.” “Tone-deaf to women, such the jogger who was raped in Manhattan last week. Tone-deaf to violence against Asian Americans.

Jason Williams stated that “what happens in New York ripples across the nation,” warning that the “weight of silence by your elected leaders hasn’t gone unnoticed.”
Freeman was already wanted for arrest in connection with a January petit theft case. On Thursday, NYPD officers pulled him over for not having a front plate and not wearing a seatbelt.
According to the Post his record is mostly sealed but he was arrested on Sept. 8, 2018, for gun possession and April 27, 2019, in a domestic violence assault case.
Jason Williams, The Post’s Monday correspondent, said that his son was dead because a criminal with nine prior arrests was walking the streets of New York City. “I also want to point out that, despite my son being a high-profile victim, and one of only tourists to be shot down in many years, I did not receive condolences from Mayor de Blasio or Mayor Adams.” Cuomo.”
Although Freeman was still held at Rikers Island on Monday on $300,000 bail, Jason Williams and prosecutors lamented that the judge had not set any bail.
Jason Williams stated, “I would say, regardless of your politics, Republican, or Democrat, that this is a serious issue for New Yorkers, and a problem we must deal with before your phone rings.” “Much of discussion around bail reform is nothing more than a boxing match in which elections are being decided.”
“I am also aware that this has become an issue of politics. He said that he did not view this as a political issue, but rather as a human issue. “It doesn’t matter which side you are on when it comes to getting your child’shot. It’s really terrible, Mr. Williams.
