All eyes are on Virginia Tuesday, as Democrats try to keep control of the House of Representatives despite polls suggesting that Republicans may sweep the lower chamber.
In 2020, neither Republicans nor Democrats were able to flip any Virginia House seats. However, the election of Republican Governor. Democrats could be in trouble with Glenn Youngkin and tight races in the 2nd-7th, and 10th districts .
In Virginia’s race for the House, incumbent Democrat Rep. Abigail Spanberger will face her challenger, Yesli Vega (a Republican currently serving on Prince William County Board of Supervisors).

Virginia’s 7th congressional district representative, Spanberger won her seat in Congress in 2020 by a narrow margin. She secured 8,270 more votes than her challenger Republican Nick Freitas – a 1.8 percent margin.
Youngkin has backed Vega, who won the 7th District in the 2021 governors race by 11 percentage points over his democratic challenger.
After securing a 5.7% margin of victory over her 2020 opponent, incumbent Democrat Rep. Elaine Luria has slightly less breathing room than Spanberger.
Youngkin was defeated by Terry McAuliffe, Democrat, in Luria’s 2nd District. Youngkin won eight percentage points.

In Virginia, House of Delegates elections in 2021 showed that there was a Republican shift despite President Biden’s victory over incumbent Donald Trump in 2020.
Democratic Rep. Jennifer Wexton, who secured her 2020 race with 13.2 per cent of the votes, could also face a difficult race Tuesday. Some of her district was split for the 2021 governor’s election. However, the majority of her voters tended to be blue.
Given Youngkin’s narrow defeat last year, Democrats and Republicans have been hard on the 10th District.
First lady Jill Biden was accompanied by Virginia Democrat Senator Tim Kaine in the 10th District Monday to support Wexton.
Kevin McCarthy, House Minority Leader, is expected to join Wexton’s opponent Hung Cao Tuesday, as Virginians head to polls.
