lderly Pro-Life Woman Continues to Stand for the Unborn Despite Being Shot

LAKE ODESSA (Michigan)–Joan Jacobson took a bullet in September for the pro-life cause.

Jacobson, 83 is a retired nurse who resides in Lake Odessa (Michigan), 40 miles east Grand Rapids. She was a volunteer with Right to Life and began knocking on doors to educate residents about an abortion-related constitutional amendment.

Proposal 3, if approved Tuesday by the voters, will give Michigan citizens a “right to abortion”. Early returns showed that 58% of voters supported the amendment to 43%, while only 7% were counted.

Jacobson stated to The Daily Signal that she believes the “sanctity and life” and that it was a conviction that drove her to stop Proposal 3 becoming law in Michigan.

Jacobson stated, “If you can tell mother that she can kill her unborn baby, how can anyone else tell her not to kill anybody?” Jacobson added that abortion destroys love, peace, and harmony.

Jacobson canvassed her community alone in September against the pro-abortion amend.

She had a heated argument with the woman she knocked on the door. Things got heated when they were discussing Proposal 3.

The husband of the woman, Richard Harvey, was 74 when he heard them arguing and approached them with a gun in his hand. Police say Harvey used the gun against Jacobson’s clipboard to push it aside and the gun fired, hitting Jacobson in his shoulder.

Jacobson was able drive herself to Lake Odessa Police Department, where she was treated. Harvey is cooperating with authorities and said that the incident wasn’t a mistake.

Jacobson says Jacobson is doing well, despite some shoulder pain. She is actually doing so well, in fact, that she spent Election Day at her local voting place to discuss Proposal 3 with voters.

Jacobson sat at a large sign warning that Proposal 3 was “dangerous” to children, parents and women. Jacobson stated that she wanted to continue educating voters about the pro-abortion amendment.

“I decided that I would be there… in the event there was somebody that was kinda like on the fence and wasn’t really sure,” she stated. “I could tell them this is what it’s going do, and maybe lead them to vote against.”

Jacobson was speaking with The Daily Signal when several voters stopped by to say hello and others shouted “I voted no” as they drove off the parking lot.

However, not everyone was friendly.

Jacobson was shouted at by a woman from her car, “You shouldn’t be here!”

Jacobson replied, “We have every right”

The woman replied, “Right, but it shouldn’t be.”

Jacobson asked, “Well, who said that?”

“People should vote their minds and not be influenced,” she said before telling Jacobson again, “You shouldn’t be here.”

Jacobson stayed. She sat in her scarf, wrapped in her scarf, and sat in her folding chair next to her pro-life sign. She continued to talk with voters who were interested in learning why she was so against Proposal 3.
