land’s most competitive congressional race between Trone and Parrott is a rematch of the 6th District // The state’s most competitive congressional battle is likely to take place Tuesday between U.S. Rep. David Trone and Republican Neil Parrott in the congressional district of western Maryland. Trone, a Democrat is running for a third term. He has a huge fundraising advantage because the owner of Total Wine & More has contributed more than $12,000,000 to his campaign. Parrott was defeated by Trone by approximately 20 percentage points in 2020. Parrott, a conservative state legislator from Washington County is expected to reap the benefits of a redrawn sixth Congressional District that has made it more competitive. HTML3_ MIDTERM ELUTIONS 2022: LIVE UPDATE After the General Assembly, controlled by Democrats had to redraw the state’s congressional map following a judge’s rejection of the original map due to partisangerrymandering. After Democrat John Delaney defeated Republican Roscoe Barrtlett, a 20-year-old incumbent Republican, in 2012, the district was redrawn into Montgomery County. There are more Democrats. The district is now more favorable to Republicans, making it more competitive. Maryland’s U.S. House delegation has a 7-1 advantage over Republicans in a state where Democrats are outnumbering Republicans 2-1. MARYLAND VOTER APPROVE LEGALIZATION RECREATIONAL MARIJUANA Rep. Andy Harris, the state’s only House Republican, defeated Heather Mizeur, a former state legislator, in the 1st Congressional District. He won a seventh term. Glenn Ivey, a Democrat, won his first term as Maryland’s 4th Congressional district. This seat was created by the departure of Rep. Anthony Brown. Brown won the race to be the state’s attorney general. Rep. Steny Hyer was reelected to his 21st term in Maryland’s 5th Congressional District.
