Mayra Flowers, the first Mexican-born congresswoman, was unseated in favor of her Democratic opponent Rep. Vicente Gonzalez. This follows a brief tenure in the House that followed a high-profile special-election victory in June. “The RED WAVE didn’t happen. Independents and Republicans stayed home. DO NOT TALK ABOUT THE RESULTS, IF YOU DID NOT DO YOUR SPART!” Flores, R-Texas, tweeted Tuesday night. Despite Flores’ win earlier in the year, Flores was still fighting to keep her seat. Her district was redrawn to include larger swathes of Democrat voting San Antonio. Flores ran under the old district lines that Biden won in 2020. However, Flores is now running under the +16 Biden district, which is much more friendly to Democrats than the previous districts. The Gonzalez campaign was criticized for using a doctored photograph of Flores to make it seem more dangerous while she was holding a firearm.
