Bacon, a Nebraska Republican, retains the US House seat and defeats Tony Vargas, a State Senator.
The Associated Press reports that Republican Rep. Don Bacon won re-election for the U.S. House seat at Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional district. He defeated State Senator Tony Vargas.
Bacon was elected to Congress for the first time in 2016, defeating Brad Ashford by just over 1 point.

Despite Nebraska’s 2nd district voting for President Biden by more than 20,000 votes in 2020; voters in the district reelected Bacon by a margin 50.8% to 46.2% in favor of Kara Eastman, Democrat.
The 2nd Congressional District of Nebraska is considered the only state seat in the U.S. House that is competitive.

Republicans occupy both of the other two Congressional districts in the state.
Bacon was a Brigadier General in the U.S. Air Force and won multiple awards including the “Air Force Distinguished Service Medal”, two Legion of Merits and two Bronze Stars,” according his campaign website.
According to Vargas’ campaign website, Vargas was a teacher in public schools and received the “Most Outstanding Teacher” and “Teacher Of The Year” awards.
