gia Governor’s Seat: Kemp defeats Abrams in a Rematch //

ATLANTA – Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, a Republican defeated Stacey Abrams, a Democrat, in a rematch Tuesday.

Georgia voters gave Kemp 54% of votes to Abrams’ 45 percent in unofficial results. With 84% of the votes counted, Kemp won. This is a significant improvement over Kemp’s win of 50.2% to 48.8% in the Democrat wave election four year ago. Abrams conceded her defeat, unlike four years ago.

Abrams never acknowledged her loss in 2018 to Kemp, claiming instead that there was evidence of voter suppression that prevented her from winning. Abrams acknowledged Kemp would be the next governor but repeatedly claimed she won during public remarks.

After exiting a polling station Tuesday, Tia Severino, a Tucker resident, said that she voted for Kemp because she couldn’t for a moment comprehend the idea of Stacey Abrams being governor of Georgia. “I’m from California. Most of her support comes from Silicon Valley and Hollywood.

Severino stated that she is an independent voter and voted twice for Democrat Barack Obama to be president.

“I think she’d be terrible for Georgia,” Severino stated of Abrams. “It’s really interesting, given all that we’ve heard about election denialism since 2020, that nobody has said anything about Stacey Abrams running about refusing to concede the loss to Kemp in 2018 and saying the election was stolen.”

Fair Fight Action, a non-profit group founded by Abrams, filed a federal suit against Georgia claiming voter suppression in the 2018 race. The Fair Fight Action case was thrown out by Steven Jones, a U.S. District Judge, who was appointed by President Barack Obama.

Mimi Obong, a Norcross voter, said that she believed Abrams would bring about the needed change.

“In the governor’s race, I voted Abrams. Obong said that she likes the platform she is standing on after she left the recreation center where her vote was cast. “I want to see change. We need to change. Insanity is expecting different results from the same thing. We’ve been doing the same thing for quite some time. We haven’t gotten different results. Let’s try something new.”

Abrams repeatedly criticized Kemp during the campaign for signing into law Senate Bill202, an election reform measure that extended voter ID requirements to absentee voters. She called the new law “Jim Crow 2.0”.

During early voting, Georgians turned out in record numbers.

After a huge victory in May over former U.S. Senator David Perdue in Republican primary, Kemp’s victory over Abrams in the general election is a result of Kemp’s triumph over Abrams. Former President Donald Trump endorsed Perdue, while Kemp received the endorsement from former Vice President Mike Pence.

During the campaign, Kemp and Abrams clashed over major issues like abortion, gun control, how to manage a surplus state budget, and how to deal with gun control.

Kemp signed a law banning abortions at six weeks, when a baby’s heartbeat can usually be detected in unborn children.

Abrams criticised the law and was a major focus of national attention when her statement : : “There’s no such thing as a heartbeat at six months. It is a manufactured sound that is used to convince people that men can take control of a woman’s body.

Sheri Mitchell, a Gwinnett County voter, said that Kemp kept our state open during COVID-19. “I don’t agree with him 100% of his time. I don’t always agree with everyone on everything. I am happy with his education performance. He was a fighter against critical race theory in schools, and he kept our economy open.”
