Florida Gov. Rick Scott said that “Wokeness” is not welcome in the Sunshine State. Ron DeSantis (a Republican) was reelected in an overwhelming victory speech on Tuesday night.
DeSantis beat Charlie Crist, Democratic U.S. Rep., a former Republican governor, by almost 20 percentage points. He received 59.4% of votes, NPR reported. Crist’s 39.9% was NPR reported. Cook Political Report had called the race “likely Republican.”
“We reject the woke ideology. We oppose the woke in the legislature. We fight the woken in schools. He said, “We fight the woken in the corporations.”
“We will never, ever give in to the woke mob. Florida is where woke dies,” DeSantis stated.
Our policies have made people come to us. Leadership is important.
We don’t believe in polls and we are not interested in following the crowd. Leaders don’t follow, they lead.
DeSantis, 44 years old, said that his state has “maintained order and law” in addition “[protecting] parents’ rights” and “[respecting] taxpayers.”
The Daily Signal reported that the Florida Board of Medicine had banned “puberty blocking drugs, cross-sex hormones and transgender surgery for minors” earlier this month.
DeSantis also signed a bill in April that prohibits critical race theory being taught in Florida schools. WPTV.com reported.
“In Florida, the far-left woke agenda will not take over our schools or workplaces. He stated that Florida does not allow for discrimination or indoctrination.
DeSantis signed the Parental rights in Education law March, which was notoriously called anti-gay by Democratic opponents.
“We will not give in to woke corporations or their tired tactics that are steeped with hypocrisy,” Florida Lieutenant Governor. Jeanette Nunez, a Republican was at that time. “As a mother to three children, I am committed in protecting the rights of parents.”
DeSantis also signed a bill revoking Disney World’s special status of an independent special district. This was seen by many conservatives as a major victory against “woke capitalism” following it attacked Parental Rights in Education.
