After defeating his challengers in Tuesday’s general election to represent Michigan’s 8th Congressional district, Dan Kildee, Democratic Rep., has been re-elected to the House. The Associated Press projects.
Kildee, who represents the state’s 5th Congressional District, has been a member of Congress since 2013. His uncle, Democrat Rep. Dale Kildee (who held the seat for more 35 years), succeeded him.
Kildee, a native of Flint, Michigan was a sponsor of 2016 legislation in the House. This legislation authorized $170,000,000 in aid to the city in response to contaminated waters. Kildee previously campaigned on issues such as bringing jobs back to Michigan and lowering the cost of prescription drugs and insurance premiums.
Kildee, who was unopposed in the Democratic primary elections to represent the district, previously served as president and CEO at the Center for Community Progress, and as the Genesee County treasurer.

It appeared that Kildee tried to distance himself from President Biden who has become a polarizing figure to Democrats trying to win votes from moderate voters. Kildee and Democratic Rep. Elissa slotkin were absent from Biden’s September visit to the state.
“Congress is in session today,” Kelly Montgomery (Kildee’s press secretary) stated to Fox News Digital in a statement. “Congressman Kildee will visit Washington, D.C., to vote and attend a hearing of the committee promoting fair trade agreements.”

Kildee spoke to Fox News Digital in 2020 about the COVID-19 Pandemic. He said that it had changed his life and “one of the best parts of my job”
” I used to see hundreds of people every single day before the pandemic,” he stated. “Whether it was talking with school groups, community events, or individual meetings, I always valued the chance to interact and be among constituents. The last few weeks have been a blurred line of events that were either virtual or phone-based. I miss the personal interaction with Michiganders.
